Background Information

Following the recent conflict emerged across the country, which has impacted millions of young people, we designed this programme to equip aspiring reporters with skills, knowledge, and experience they need to excel in journalism and promote truth, transparency, and social change.

The Young Reporters Fellowship in Sudan provides comprehensive training, hands-on experience, and mentorship to 25 young journalists each year in Sudan. Our programme covers essential topics such as multimedia storytelling, digital journalism, investigative reporting, and ethical journalism practices.

The Deputy Director will be responsible for managing operations, ensuring efficient use of resources, and supporting the overall strategic goals of the fellowship. This role requires a strong background in management, extensive administrative experience, and fluency in English.

Job Description

  • Operational Management: Oversee the daily operations of the YRF, ensuring smooth and efficient processes across all departments.
  • Resource Allocation: Manage the allocation and utilization of resources, including budget planning and financial management, to ensure the programme operates within its means.
  • Staff Supervision: Recruit, train, and supervise administrative and support staff, fostering a productive and collaborative work environment.
  • Policy Implementation: Develop and implement policies and procedures that support the strategic goals of YRF and ensure compliance with organizational standards and regulations.
  • Reporting and Evaluation: Prepare regular reports on operational performance, financial status, and other key metrics for the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including partners, donors, and community members, to support the fellowship’s mission and objectives.
  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and execute strategic plans that enhance the effectiveness and impact of the fellowship.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate operational risks to ensure the continuity and sustainability of the programme.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in management, administration, or a related field, preferably within the non-profit or educational sector.
  • Skills: Strong background in operational management, with proven ability to manage budgets, supervise staff, and improve organizational processes. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are essential.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage multiple projects, and drive operational excellence.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to think strategically, analyze operational challenges, and develop innovative solutions.
