Job Description
1. Team Supervision & Leadership
· Supervise, guide, and motivate customs or operations staff
· Assign daily tasks and monitor attendance and performance
· Train new staff and provide on-the-job coaching
· Handle minor disciplinary issues and escalate when required
2. Customs & Regulatory Compliance
· Ensure all activities comply with Royal Malaysian Customs Department (RMCD) regulations
· Monitor customs clearance processes (import/export)
· Ensure proper documentation (K1, K2, K8, K9, invoices, permits, COO, etc.)
· Keep updated on changes in customs laws, duties, and tariffs
3. Operational Control
· Coordinate daily customs-related operations
· Ensure timely clearance of goods to avoid delays or penalties
· Liaise with freight forwarders, agents, transporters, and internal teams
· Resolve operational issues and bottlenecks
4. Documentation & Reporting
· Review and verify customs declarations and supporting documents
· Maintain accurate records for audits and inspections
· Prepare operational, compliance, and performance reports
· Ensure proper filing (physical and electronic)
5. Compliance Audits & Risk Management
· Conduct internal compliance checks
· Support customs audits and investigations
· Identify risks and recommend corrective actions
· Ensure corrective actions are implemented effectively
6. Stakeholder & Authority Liaison
· Act as main contact with Royal Malaysian Customs, ports, and regulatory bodies
· Handle inquiries, inspections, and inspections follow-ups
· Coordinate site visits or inspections
7. Process Improvement
· Review existing customs and operational procedures
· Propose improvements to reduce cost, lead time, and errors
· Support digitalization or system enhancements
8. Health, Safety & Security
· Ensure compliance with company safety policies
· Promote secure handling and storage of goods
· Prevent loss, damage, or non-compliance incidents
9. Performance & KPI Management
· Monitor clearance lead time, error rates, penalties, and compliance KPIs
· Ensure team meets productivity and accuracy targets
· Report issues and corrective actions to management
10. Other Duties
· Support management on ad-hoc tasks related to customs operations
· Act as team lead during manager’s absence.
Qualifications
· Required Skills and Experience
Fluence in English and Bahasa Malaysia (both Read and Write).·
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum 5 years trade compliance experience.·
Extensive knowledge of Export Processing Enterprice (EPE) Compliance and Customs management and the effects of trade compliance activities across responsible areas.·
Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders both in written and verbal formats·
Results Oriented·
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills·
Strong MS Office products knowledge (Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI)·
Good collaboration skills and ability to gain trust and confidence from peers and leadership.
