Job Description
The Employee Relations Business Partner is responsible for acting as a nexus between employees and management to assist in conflict resolution through various forms of intervention including problem-solving, mediation, training, and counseling. The Counselor investigates employee complaints and grievances, sometimes of a highly sensitive and complex nature, and recommends appropriate solutions, including but not limited to disciplinary action and separation of employment.
- Case management – including conducting investigations and managing the investigative process for internal complaints of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and other workplace issues. This also includes composing responses to government agency employment charges and facilitating conflict resolution.
- Consultative services – including performance counselling (e.g., discipline, performance improvement plans), incident handling, review of HR policy and compliance counsel.
- Responsible for maintaining the highest level of confidentiality with all employee claims.
- Facilitates training classes for supervisors including, but not limited to, HR systems training, performance management, and the respective Collective Bargaining Agreements.
- Answering phones, scheduling meetings and assisting in daily administrative duties as assigned.
- Meeting with walk-in employees.
- Working effectively with labor unions.
- Conducting grievance meetings with unions and employees.
- Interpretation and proper application of Company policies and procedures, as well as any Collective Bargaining Agreements.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field is preferred, but not required.
- Ability to remain objective and open-minded in all situations.
- Can demonstrate a combination of assertiveness, poise, sensitivity and tact leading to high credibility and ability to persuade.
- Required to travel to offsite locations to conduct investigations, facilitate conflict resolution, and attend various hearings and court proceedings.
- Must be proficient in all MS Office applications.
- Must be able to handle multiple tasks while meeting deadlines and delivering quality results.
- Works with minimal supervision and guidance.
- Independently sets own work priorities.
- Skill in a second language is preferred, but not required.
- A minimum of two years Human Resources or one year Employee Relations experience is preferred, but not required.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
