Job Description

A Trainee Health & Safety Advisor is someone who enjoys variety in their work. They will work
across each function of St. Modwen Homes, developing a breadth of knowledge that allows
them to support teams onsite in the implementation of policies and procedures that keep the
business running. The Trainee Health & Safety Advisor will be as comfortable onsite as they are
in the office, using their practical expertise and clear communication to make sure that all
activity is proactively planned and undertaken safely.

In a typical week, a Trainee Health & Safety Advisor might:

  • Understand the operation of each function and how H&S is embedded in each function, through guidance from H&S Manager. 
  • Assist in the development and ongoing review of the Construction Phase Plan for each site. Involvement in pre-construction and technical activities that relate to H&S.
  • Support teams in their site forward planning and leadership meetings for H&S implications and considerations for sites. 
  • Ensure that accountabilities and responsibilities within the H&S management systems are clearly understood by all site and office-based personnel.  
  • Promote the Company’s H&S standards within our supply chain and conduct supply chain assessments, as and when deemed necessary, and recommend any action required to ensure compliance with our H&S standards. 
  • Undertake site inspections under the supervision of the H&S Manager and attend Review Meetings on designated sites
  • Provide support with identification and management of H&S risks, issues and opportunities under guidance from the H&S Manager
  • Support the Regional site teams with the effective management of H&S issues/ incidents/accidents/delivery of actions to satisfy governance requirements and embed lessons learned.
  • Undertake inductions as required on sites
  • Undertake the review of RA/MS with contractors and site teams
  • Gain an understanding of key construction processes and the technical aspects
  • Support the H&S Team in the delivery of the H&S Plan and identified priorities
  • Support in the preparation and issue H&S Alerts / Bulletins and Posters
  • Support with the review and update of H&S processes and procedures as necessary
  • Promote and lives the values of St. Modwen
  • Maintain knowledge and adhere to relevant Group Policies and Procedures, Legislation and Regulations

Qualifications

An interest to broaden your H&S knowledge and a passion to want to enhance your
career in this area

  • Familiar with key aspects of H&S management and terminology – but training will be provided
  • Full driving licence
  • Have a clear understanding of importance of the role in the team and the standards of performance that are expected
  • Attention to detail
  • NEBOSH Construction certificate, AIEMA desirable. Minimum TechIOSH working towards CMIOSH
  • IT capability – Word/Excel/PowerPoint
  • Understanding of general business systems and processes
  • Organisation and personal time management
  • Good interpersonal skills

  • A starting salary of £22,000-25,000 per annum
