General Accounting Lead

Company Description

Wise is looking for a Team Lead to join our General Accounting team. The General Accounting team is part of the Finance Tribe, being responsible for the financial deliverables for all entities in Wise group. Working closely with the Tax, Controlling, FP&A and other Finance teams you will be responsible for accounting processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting as well taking part in new accounting projects and initiatives.

A bit about the role

Coordination: Lead a team focused on the complete, accurate and timely completion of General Accounting transactions and month end activities. Ensure compliance with internal and external guidelines and procedures. Working closely with Technical Accounting and Controlling teams, define operating guidelines and project tasks to ensure delivery of the General Accounting team responsibilities in accordance with the company timelines. 

Transactional activity: Ensure accurate processing of accounting transactions. Oversee organisation and work allocation for the team members involved in transaction and workings processing. Oversee analysis of accounts and highlights discrepancies, anomalies for correction. 

Stakeholder management: Maintain relationships within the Finance Tribe and with all other stakeholders to ensure information sharing and properly manage expectations. 

Optimization: Oversee implementation of best practices and continuously optimise practices, automate to gain efficiency and drive productivity gains. 

Internal controls: Ensure transparency in financial reporting and disclosures. Leads Internal Control over Financial Reporting compliance and reporting for the GA team.

Reporting: Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly and annual reporting of reporting packages and associated disclosures.

People: Ensure with the support from Lead that the area of responsibility is organised, staffed, skilled, trained and directed. Guide, coach, motivate and develop team members. 

 

Your mission will include the following activities:

  • Oversee the daily activities of the team and ensure that all major projects, month-end, and year-end tasks are completed accurately and on time.

  • Identify missing or insufficient processes and take initiative to find solutions.

  • Develop a strong General Accounting team and support specialists on their personal growth paths.

  • Support defining the team’s goals and vision while increasing efficiency of the team. Participate in organising the planning activities, coordinating execution and sharing relevant results and updates.

  • Help the team develop and measure KPIs for success.

  • Drive operational excellence, while building sufficient controls and assessing and mitigating operational risks.

  • Support automation of accounting processes in cooperation with the Finance Internal Systems team.

  • Manage stakeholders: organise, monitor and improve the relationships with all stakeholders, both internal and external.

Qualifications

About you:

  • You have at least 2  years of experience in leading a team and at least 4  years of experience in accounting, financial controlling or audit. Strong understanding of the core accounting principles (advanced IFRS knowledge would be a benefit).

  • You have a University or college degree in accounting, finance or economics. It would be beneficial, if you have or are studying towards   a   professional   finance   qualification   such   as   the   ACA,   ACCA,   CPA   or equivalent with proven post qualification experience.

  • You work independently, assume responsibility and make your own judgements. 

  • You have good written and verbal English skills.
