Job Description
The Lead is responsible for leading a cohesive team that works together, solves problems as a team, and helps each other to achieve team objectives. The Lead will identify Best Practices for machine groups and implement them throughout the team to increase efficiencies, reduce set time changes, and eliminate safety hazards. The Lead will be responsible for the output of the machine group.
Duties & Responsibilities
Safety- Ensure all team members adhere to all safe work practices and procedures while maintaining a clean work area.
Quality- Continually meeting or exceeding customer requirements for products and services by establishing and adhering to procedures designed to ensure that all quality goals are met.
High Involvement- Need to demonstrate a sense of ownership in Rope Assembly activities. This is accomplished by providing clear expectations, control of resources, responsibility, and coaching. Also assisting, working together in a high-performance team, without removing responsibility for the team.
Continuous Improvement- Creating an environment where all team members look for opportunities to develop and implement improvements of processes, products, and themselves.
Open Communication- Provide an environment in which all necessary and appropriate information is shared on all aspects of the business.
Trust – Create an environment that fosters the sharing of feelings and knowledge while promoting a positive work environment.
Specific Task Items
- Ensure training within the group, responsible for tie-in with Group Lead on adjacent shifts, Receive Work Orders from Supervisor and distribute to the team, and set priorities for the day.
- Be responsible for the performance of your assigned Value Stream to KPIs determined by the business. These may include, but are not limited to: safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and housekeeping/5S.
- Monitor and track the progress of all KPIs using the appropriate tools.
- Own the Tier 1 boards in your Value Stream as well as be an active participant or leader in the Tier 2 meetings.
- Be accountable for signing off orders in your Value Stream.
- Main line of communication between the Team and Supervisor, Review schedule and make recommendations to scheduling, sign off on orders Perform periodic quality checks in lieu of Supervisor or Shift Lead, divides trainee’s assignments based on production opportunities within the Team, Ensure machine coverage during breaks, split break times between team members as necessary
- Approximately 50% of your time will be used providing direction and assistance to the PIT Crews.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Possess math skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Must have the ability to learn to use and read micrometers, tape measure, feeler gauge, JDE TranCollector scan guns and printers, and basic hand tools.
- Must be able to stand/walk on concrete floors for 10–12-hour shifts.
- Must be able to push/pull, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to work in extreme environmental conditions with temperatures ranging from 40-100+ degrees Fahrenheit.
- Must have the ability to develop and lead a team as described in the listed Responsibilities.
- Must be signed off on at least one machine in the group.
- Must possess math skills, mechanical aptitude, and have the ability to use calipers, micrometers, tape measure, feeler gauge, and basic hand tools
- Previous manufacturing experience that includes the use of measuring devices and the use of basic math and mechanical skills.
- High School Diploma or GED.

Materials and Equipment Directly Used
- Strand and Wire rope of various diameters and lengths, on reels or in coils, empty or unassembled reels, paper lagging strips, tags, seizing wire, blocking, thimbles.
- Rewinding machines, stanchions, shafts, collars, bushings, rope cutters, measuring devise, fork trucks, banding equipment, welders, various hand tools.
