Job Description
At Atlassian Williams F1 Team, our Industrial Placement gives ambitious students 12 months inside Formula 1. You’ll take on real responsibility with projects that shape the future car and our business. Grow with a cohort from day one, then head back to university with experience you can apply immediately. Join a high-performance team, push boundaries, make an impact.
The Systems Simulation team centralises how we model and optimise our systems - from cooling, hydraulics and gearboxes to suspension kinematics and multi-body dynamics. By embedding first-principles engineering at the core of our work, Systems Simulations deliver accurate, consistent, and innovative simulations that drive performance and reliability. This unified approach accelerates development, validates bold ideas, and helps push the limits of innovation before a single component is built.
In this placement, you’ll help simulate car systems such as hydraulics, cooling, brakes and multi-body mechanical components, then use those simulations to understand and improve real designs. You’ll work alongside other engineering teams throughout, seeing your models feed directly into decisions on the car.
- Support simulation of car systems including hydraulics, cooling, brakes and multi-body mechanical components
- Support testing of car systems including hydraulics, cooling, brakes and multi-body mechanical components
- Analyse existing components to build understanding and inform design improvements
- Run functional and performance calculations that support your simulations
- Work with design, vehicle science, electronics and production teams, drawing on teamwork to keep the design process moving
Qualifications
What we are looking for:
- Studying towards a degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Aerospace, Marine or a related engineering discipline
- Some knowledge of MATLAB or Python and Simulink, Dymola, or other 1D simulation software is useful, but full training is provided
