Job Description
The Director, Finance, Capital Planning & Business Development reports to the VP, Finance and Deputy Chief Financial Officer, and is a driven, dedicated, proactive and confident individual. As a member and leader of the Finance Team, this position works in collaboration with various stakeholders including clinical and non-clinical leadership. The individual is an experienced business partner who will be responsible for leading the planning, monitoring, and reporting of Osler’s $1.1B worth of on-book capital assets and lead the long range capital planning for the organization. This role will also be responsible for the strategy, oversight and technical guidance for business development and accounts receivable operations and related technology systems, processes and activities. The individual is expected to exercise sound judgment, tact and to demonstrate exceptional levels of customer service to other departments by providing professional expertise, advice and assistance as required. This role will be required to achieve the goals and objectives of the Finance Department in alignment with the Vision, Mission and Values of Osler.
Accountabilities:
- Leading the capital planning functions for the organization and partner with the management team, both at the functional and executive leadership levels, to provide value-added information to support business decisions
- Own the end to end delivery of the annual capital planning cycle by engaging with leaders across the organization and lead the capital long range plans and the reporting thereof
- Work in partnership with the ministry and Osler redevelopment team to support financial planning, monitoring and reporting of major capital projects. Provide analysis of complex financial information and reports to deliver accurate and timely financial recommendations to Senior Management for decision making purposes
- Oversee the financial aspects of leasing space in conjunction with our property management team
- Influence business decisions by challenging status quo assumptions and processes, using data and analysis to proactively drive business decisions that will improve financial performance
- Support strategic initiatives through the provision of financial modeling and analysis, and subsequent reporting and insight to ensure that financial benefits are derived as expected
- Oversees the production of monthly and ad hoc reporting on capital projects and works collaboratively with project management teams to review monthly status reports and prepares forecasts based on feedback from various stakeholders
- Takes initiative and stays abreast of any changes to ministry funding models and cost share guidelines related to capital projects and Post-Construction Operating Plan (PCOP) funding
- Owns key finance and business processes including, but not limited to, enhancing current planning and forecasting tools & processes and infrastructure
- Oversees the operations of the Accounts Receivables department and works closely with Manager, Billing & Accounts Receivable to streamline billing and collection processes, ensuring adherence to organizational policies and internal controls
- Develops strategies to leverage and continuously improve revenue processes, customer service and patient revenue reporting
- Proactively review business development (revenue) opportunities and development and monitoring of business cases to support these activities
- Keeps abreast of any changes in provincial funding programs and its impact on hospital operations
- Develop, coach and build a team of finance professionals
- Explore opportunities to improve the quality and the value of the data, and the information being collected; and apply a more unified and streamlined approach in finance/business services across the organization to create opportunities for innovation and the development of a greater business partner culture
- Other roles and responsibilities as assigned based on the strategic priorities of Osler
Qualifications
- CPA designation
- Master's degree in business administration, accounting, or finance an asset
- Knowledge of health systems and cost share guidelines for ministry funded major capital projects would be considered an asset
- Minimum 5-7 years of management experience in a medium to large business
- Demonstrated expertise in financial and capital analysis, budgeting and forecasting, and management reporting
- Demonstrated strategic and operational experience in business development
- Knowledge of provincial funding programs such as OHIP and IFH an asset
- Exceptional client focus ability to effectively and quickly build relations and establish trust, respect, competence and confidence
- Impeccable attention to detail, with highly-developed project management, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated problem solving skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment when dealing with ambiguity
- Excellent communication and presentation skills including the ability to distill complex concepts into lay terms
- Proven ability to manage multiple competing priorities on a regular basis, while delivering results in a timely and accurate manner
- Known for, and demonstrates an ability to coach, mentor and build effective teams
- Demonstrated ability to work in an exciting, fast paced, fast changing environment
Additional Information
DURATION: Approximately fifteen (15) months or until the previous incumbent returns.
Hours: Currently Days, Monday to Friday (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)
This role is Hybrid: Roles that function remotely, but require essential, regular onsite weekly work.
