About the role

Reporting to the VP, Business & Legal Affairs, the Legal Counsel will be responsible for providing excellent, proactive and collaborative business and legal affairs counsel to WildBrain’s audience engagement, franchise, and content development and production teams.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • As a member of our Business and Legal Affairs team, handle a wide array of matters impacting the global media industry, including negotiating, drafting and advising on licensing agreements to support distribution efforts, services agreements with content creator and influencers to support brand collaborations, production-related contracts for both live-action and animation projects, and various ancillary agreements in support of all the above.
  • Implement legal strategy to provide 360° advice through collaboration across key business units (e.g., Distribution, AVOD/FAST networks, Audience Engagement, Production, and Franchise), including providing guidance and expertise related to the creative requirements, business concerns, and privacy matters unique to kids-focused content.
  • Collaborate with WildBrain’s business units to translate creative and business objectives into clear commercial positions related to rights exploitation, financials, and regulatory compliance, balancing speed-to-market with risk management.

Qualifications

  • LLB/JD, and member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario
  • 2-4 years of industry experience in entertainment/media, technology or IP licensing; experience in entertainment law is considered an asset
  • Proven legal and business judgement to make effective decisions and problem solve
  • Positive, professional team player who can work independently, reliably and efficiently
  • Proactive, creative, and practical solutions to complex problems
  • Excellent drafting, time management and organizational skills to consistently deliver high quality, reliable work while meeting tight timelines
  • Curiosity and a desire to take on new and exciting challenges in a rapidly evolving environment

Total Rewards  

At WildBrain, we strive for equitable and consistent pay practices within a robust total rewards framework. Compensation may vary within the same role based on experience, performance, specialized expertise, and overall impact.   

Compensation:  $140,000 - 155,000 CAD. Base salary is part of a comprehensive total rewards package that includes:
