Job Description

General Summary Of Duties:

Supervise and train restaurant service staff, maintain standards and methods of operation to ensure consistent guest satisfaction. Prepare reports and maintain records. 

Role and Responsibilities: (Includes but is not limited to the following)

  1. Supervise, train, and direct the placement, work performance, and conduct of subordinate employees.  Observe performance and encourage improvement.  Monitor levels of workload, and make staffing adjustments accordingly.  Maintain standards, methods of operation, and department reports/records.
  2.  Verbally greet internal/external guests in a friendly and courteous manner.  Provide guest satisfaction through assistance, direction, and/or information. 
  3. Remain calm and alert, especially during emergency situations and/or heavy hotel activity, serving as a role model for other employees.  Resolve guest complications and complaints by conducting thorough research of the situation and the most effective solutions.  Make decisions and take action based on previous experience and good judgment, sometimes revising procedures to accommodate unusual situations.  Authorize revenue allowances to remedy problems only after other alternative solutions have been offered.
  4. Abide by all State, Federal and Corporate liquor regulations pertaining to alcoholic beverage service to minors and intoxicated guests.
  5. Attend and participate in meetings to receive instructions and information regarding department and internal Hotel concerns.

Qualifications

Performance Requirements: (Knowledge, skills and abilities)

  1. Ability to listen effectively, speaks, read and write English clearly to ascertain and document important information, and provide clear direction, instruction and guidance to subordinates.
  2. Ability to comprehend and follow written and/or verbal instructions from supervisor.
  3. Ability to effectively deal with guest complaints and concerns in a friendly and positive manner.  This involves listening to the nature of the concern, demonstrating empathy with the guest and providing positive and proactive solutions. Ability to deal with a number of problems which requires initiative and good judgment.
  4. Ability to operate office equipment, including personal computer, NCR, photocopier, typewriter, and calculator. Sufficient manual dexterity of hand in order to use a computer keyboard, typewriter, and calculator.
  5. Requires reading and math skills for scheduling/payroll reports using a calculator.
  6. Ability to access and input information using a moderately complex computer system (Microsoft Word/EXCEL).
  7. Ability to organize and prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
  8. Ability to exercise judgment and implement control over the performance of subordinates.  Supervise service staff including training, counseling and discipline.  Schedule staff so that proper coverage is maintained while keeping payroll costs in line.
  9. Knowledge of restaurant operations, to include appropriate staffing levels, service equipment and guest relations.
  10. Check station before, during and after shift for proper set-up and cleanliness.
  11. Maintain inventory of supplies needed to perform job function.
  12. Good working knowledge of accepted standards of sanitation.
  13. Knowledge of labor law. 
  14. Ability to maintain attendance in conformance with standards.
  15. Ability to maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance.
