Job Description

Join our data-centric team to participate in the digital transformation that is taking place at Westgate Resorts. We have been developing and refining our BI data warehouse over the last few years, which has become the foundation that supports ongoing business operations, and enables a team of highly collaborative analysts, Tableau developers, and subject matter experts to develop and share insights on historical trends and provide data and analytics support for strategic initiatives taking place across the organization.

We are seeking a Senior BI Analyst / Tableau developer with 5+ years of experience working with large volumes of relational data in a reporting and analytics environment; developing multi-layered SQL queries that build and maintain datasets used in data visualizations and portfolio dashboards, with emphasis on clean formatting and user experience (UX) in mind.

The ideal candidate is well-versed in data warehouse concepts, including table design (normalized vs non-normalized), datatypes, indexes, functions, and stored procedures, and can demonstrate success in taking a data project from concept to reality, including comprehending the overall business objective, conducting exploratory data analysis, writing optimized and scalable code, building the user interface (UI), and communicating the results.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Communicate insights through design, development, deployment and support of sustainable, scalable Tableau dashboards.
  • Deliver medium to high complexity dashboards, while using simple methods and principles for creating the view; use design prototyping in Excel for establishing a Minimum Viable Product.
  • Drive intuitive and logical User eXperience flow allowing the reader to intuitively navigate and understand the information being presented; ensure clarity throughout the experience.
  • Provide ad hoc data support for critical reporting needs.
  • Perform detailed data analysis through discovery, determining structure, content, and quality of data through examining source systems, data samples, dictionaries, and consulting co-workers.
  • Perform data manipulation tasks using SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) to synthesize data into analytical datasets; define, execute, and interpret complex/nested SQL queries.
  • Become a subject matter expert of our existing datasets and data infrastructure.
  • Actively participate in the expansion of the Reporting & Analytics team to support other business units and initiatives that help elevate the team.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience designing, developing, testing and implementing, scalable and high-performance BI and analytic solutions; at least 4 of these years of experience should be as a Tableau Developer.
  • At least 3 years of experience reading, writing, defining, executing, and interpreting complex/nested SQL queries for SQL Server, Oracle, or equivalent RDBMS.
  • Strong background developing data visualizations, end user reports and performing data analysis.  Strong understanding of design strategies around information display.  Understand the impact of User eXperience and how to navigate a reader’s eyes.
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Relates well to others, engages people and helps them understand change, provides and looks for feedback, articulates clearly, and actively listens.
  • Self-motivated, quality-oriented, delivery-oriented, and able to self-prioritize work.  Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Ability to deliver quality work within strict deadlines while managing multiple priorities and acting with a sense of urgency; able to work well with complexity and ambiguity.
  • Very strong data development and refinement skills using T-SQL for Microsoft SQL Server (Azure).
  • Expert level technical, financial modeling, and reporting skills; deep experience leveraging a variety of analytical techniques for solving problems and drawing conclusions.
  • Ability to define a vision and influence the strategic direction of how data will be organized, assembled, and managed for advanced analytics, business intelligence, and operational reporting.
  • Self-starter with superior analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, organization, and decision-making skills; high attention to detail and ability to deal with ambiguity.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to explain complex results to a non-technical team audience.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in computer science, data science, engineering, I.T., business, finance, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in an analytical role, with demonstrated experience developing metrics, identifying trends, designing dashboards and reports using enterprise business intelligence tools like Tableau.
  • 3+ years of experience in writing SQL.
  • Strong skills to design and develop attractive and engaging data visualization and user experience using Tableau.
  • Tableau Certification highly desired.
  • Demonstration of Tableau skills and knowledge will be required.
  • Experience in a large public or private company.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Strong ability to communicate complex and often ambiguous information into a simple and clear story. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from senior leaders, groups of managers, and other internal business partners. Excellent business correspondence skills.

The ability to read, write, understand, explain, optimize, and simplify SQL code is required.
