Job Description

General Summary Of Duties:

Works with the Director of Banquet Operations on supervising Banquet Waiters, Bartenders and bar Porters, Banquet Runners and the Convention Set Up department.  Oversees the timely service of all food and beverage events as dictated by convention resumes and Banquet Event Orders.  Interface with all convention clients to insure satisfaction and positive feedback.  Maintain daily logs and revenue flash reports.  Oversees the bar departments and the bar porters. 

Role and Responsibilities: (Includes but is not limited to the following)

Supervise the successful execution of all banquet functions. Maintain appropriate staffing levels for all events and coordinate room set-ups. Prepare labor forecasts, detailed floor plans and maintain training for all levels of banquet staff. Ensure guest satisfaction through direct communicate with clientele.  Maintain food and beverage par levels and rotation of inventory with regards to outdated products.

  • Detailed record keeping in English is required for logs, inspection sheets and inventories.
  • Social skills as demonstrated by the ability to effectively deal with internal/external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy to defuse anger.
  • Collect accurate information and solve customer concerns.
  • Ability to act independently while analyzing data and drawing conclusions from written and computer generated materials.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to provide clear direction to staff.
  • Assign and instruct banquet service personnel in details of work.
  • Observe performance and encourage improvement.
  • Monitor level of workload and make staffing adjustments accordingly.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language clearly to ascertain and document important information, to follow written and/or verbal instructions and to provide clear direction/guidance.
  • Ability to relate to all levels of management and employees in verbal/written form.
  • Remain calm and alert, especially during emergency situations and/or heavy hotel activity, serving as a role model for other employees.
  • Resolve complications and complaints by conducting thorough research of the situation and the most effective solutions.
  • Make decisions and take action based on previous experience & judgment, sometimes revising procedures to accommodate unusual situations.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and implement control over the performance of staff.
  • Ability to deal with a number of problems requiring initiative and good judgment.
  • Ability to organize/prioritize work, meet deadlines, work with minimal supervision and multiple interruptions, exercise judgment and adapt instructions/directions from one assignment to another. 
  • Supervise all staff including: selection, training, counseling and discipline.
  • Basic mathematical skills necessary to operate a calculator, computer and cash register to total guest checks, total all other charges and understand consumption sheets/reports.
  • Ability to access and input information using a moderately complex computer system.
  • Ability to perform duties within hot to normal to cold temperature ranges.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity of hand in order to use kitchen equipment, office equipment including: computer keyboard, calculator, general office equipment and multi-line telephone.
  • Knowledge of department operations, to include appropriate staffing levels, service equipment and guest relations.
  • Adheres to control procedure for food costs, labor costs and quality.
  • Social skills as demonstrated by the ability to listen and respond to employee or management concerns/inquiries using a positive, clear speaking voice, answering questions and/or offering assistance giving accurate information regarding plans, policy or procedures within guidelines.
  • Check station before, during, and after shift for proper set-up and cleanliness.
  • Good working knowledge of accepted standards of sanitation.
  • Respond to guest inquiries.
  • Provide guest satisfaction through assistance, direction and information within hotel guidelines. 
  • Experience  Requirements:
  • ·         At least 10 – 12 years in Banquet Experience
  • ·         Experience with large events
  • ·         A general knowledge of bar service, wines, alcohol etc.
  • Education Requirements:
  • High school diploma/GED or higher.
