Job Description

SUMMARY

Join our data-centric team to participate in the digital transformation that is taking place at Westgate Resorts. We have been developing and refining our BI data warehouse over the last few years, which has become the foundation that supports ongoing business operations, and enables a team of highly collaborative analysts, Tableau Developers, and Subject Matter Experts to provide key insights on past and present trends, and provide data and analytics support for strategic initiatives taking place across the organization.

We are seeking a seasoned Data Engineer with 3-5 years of experience in a data warehouse environment to support our team as we continue to refine our data warehouse, and architect new datasets that will empower end users.  You will be responsible for partnering with stakeholders to create a vision for the data, delivering value through dataset development and documentation, managing existing ETL and data pipelines, and other data infrastructure related responsibilities.

This individual specializes in understanding business needs, data concepts, data modeling, and translating these elements into physical data models and solution architectures.  They have a deep understanding of the data’s purpose and end use, how it will be visualized, and design in terms of scale and simplicity.

This individual must be able to use logic to reconcile data discrepancies, perform data validation with high attention to detail, and share conclusions with the goal of producing organized, well-structured, efficient, and accurate code.

DUTIES

  • Architect and develop key datasets that serve as the foundation for reporting and ad hoc analysis
  • Become a subject matter expert of our existing datasets and infrastructure
  • Document key datasets and database structure
  • Provide ad hoc data support for critical reporting needs
  • Actively participate in the expansion of the Reporting & Analytics team to support other business units and initiatives that help elevate the team
  • Provide backup support for the daily SQL server needs such as (i) ensuring high uptime and optimal speed, (ii) security, (iii) account management and access, (iv) implementation and maintenance of scheduled jobs, and (v) monitor usage

Qualifications

  • Deep understanding of data warehouse architecture, indexes, execution plans, and process optimization
  • Very strong data development and refinement skills using SQL
  • Self-starter with superior analytical, critical thinking, communication, organization, and decision-making capabilities
  • Ability to define a vision and influence the strategic direction of how data will be organized, assembled, and managed for advanced analytics, business intelligence, and operational reporting
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, ability to deal with ambiguity, and work successfully and effectively on cross-functional teams
  • Ability to quickly learn, adapt, and integrate new technologies
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at once and possess a work ethic based on a strong desire to exceed expectations

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in computer science, data science, engineering, I.T., business, finance, or a related field
  • Three to five years of progressive experience in a data warehouse environment
  • Experience in a large public or private company
  • Experience with proven ability to interact with all levels of the organization

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Strong ability to communicate complex and often ambiguous information into a simple and clear story.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from senior leaders, groups of managers, and other internal business partners.  Excellent business correspondence skills.

The ability to read, write, understand, explain, optimize, and simplify SQL code is required.
