Job Description

The Conventions Security Coordinator works in conjunction with Security Management and all required departments to provide leadership, direction, and management for conventions and events to ensure a safe, positive guest experience. This position is responsible for implementing, maintaining and updating security and guest service policies, programs and procedures designed to protect the physical assets of the property, while providing an enjoyable, safe, and secure environment for all guests and team members.

  • Directs the day-to-day operations and team members with event management, communicating to internal and external clients in a public facility environment, investigations, and administration.
  • Coordinates with Security leaders regarding the execution and delivery of established safety protocols and ensures department stays within established financial parameters.
  • Assists Security leaders with critical threat identification, intelligence gathering and analysis at a global level, monitoring incidents and accessing information to determine what impact those incidents may have on the company, employees, customers, and facilities.
  • Partners with property Convention and Catering Leadership, Legal and Risk Management teams to develop strategy, policies and procedures and set direction that secures the safety and protection of the employees and guest at all times.
  • Maintains great working relationships with law enforcement, weather, safety, emergency evacuation and protection agencies to maximize the timely and accurate communication of safety expectations for the property.
  • Ensures Convention and Events, and other areas of responsibility, are patrolled consistently and thoroughly to respond timely to incidents.
  • Liaise with Convention/Event clients, and meeting planners for the coordination of all security operations.
  • Resolves security complaints in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Manages and executes global security and guest service initiatives and operations including developing, maintaining, and overseeing the operation of security tools, processes, and policies to defend, detect, and respond to threats, vulnerabilities, and attacks targeting the company.
  • Evaluates ongoing training within the department, to include standard operating procedures, security investigations, emergency procedures, management training and guest service.
  • Evaluates security reports for compliance with report criteria per Westgate Resorts standards.
  • Recommends changes to procedures and policies to close service and operational gaps.
  • Ensure compliance with Company policies, federal, state and local laws.
  • Provides leadership and direct execution of guest service standards within the reporting areas in the Convention and Events area consistent with the company’s standards to ensure continued growth and profitability.
  • Provides leadership and operational direction for the Security and Guest Service department for daily operations and event specific requirements in collaboration with event producers and security.
  • Provide cross-functional leadership of security operations activities including vulnerability mitigation, incident response, and risk assessments.
  • Responsible for championing awareness, influencing compliance with security and safety policies, and providing solutions for business specific security issues; ensure compliance with safety  regulatory organizations including OSHA, Health Districts, Fire Departments, Building Departments, Environmental Protection, and Insurance Carriers.

 

Qualifications

Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language clearly to ascertain and document important information, to follow written and/or verbal instructions, to provide clear direction/guidance, and to communicate with others.

Ability to stand, move, and work throughout property, including walking (up to 5-7 miles), climbing stairs (10% of shift - tower positions to 35% of shift), riding elevators, bike patrol, driving patrol vehicle(s), and/or standing/sitting at workstations for the duration of the shift. 

Social skills as demonstrated by the ability to listen and respond to employee or management inquiries/concerns using a positive, clear speaking voice, answering questions, and/or offering assistance, giving accurate information regarding plans, policies, or procedures within guidelines.

Ability to grasp, bend, lift and/or carry, or otherwise move goods weighing a maximum of 40 lbs. on an intermittent basis, with repeated lifting, carrying and push/pull of 20 lbs. And sufficient dexterity of hand in order to use handcuffs, emergency equipment, two-way radio, multi-line telephone and keys.

Knowledge of safety/security practices and procedures including: C.P.R., emergency first aid, semi-automatic defibrillator and basic emergency fire equipment.

Basic mathematical skills necessary to verify/balance reports and perform simple calculations.

Ability to maintain attendance in conformance with standards.
