Job Description

STARTING RATE: $19/hour

General Summary Of Duties:

Patrol, walk/vehicle patrol or stand in assigned area (assignment changes daily) observing all activity, responding to calls as directed by the dispatcher and/or supervisor.  Perform proactive and enforcement functions in a courteous and restrained manner in coping with emergencies, undesired conduct, disturbances and threats to life and/or property to maintain a safe and secure environment. 

Role and Responsibilities: (Includes but is not limited to the following)

  1. Ability at assigned station/area, stand and/or move on a continuous basis for up to 3 hours, to observe and identify potential security/safety risks, suspicious persons/activity, or undesirable conditions or hazards.  Intermittently, drive department vehicle(s) or bicycle to patrol parking garage/lots and property perimeter.  Observe the CCTV monitors for unusual activity. 
  2. Ability to respond to emergency situations (i.e., CPR, first aid, other medical emergencies, fire), undesired conduct and violations of property, policy and/or civil law as warranted for the safety/security of guests, employees and property. Ability to provide instructions and/or guidance for guest/employee safety.
  3. Ability to remain calm and alert, especially during emergency situations and/or heavy property activity, serving as a role model for other employees. 
  4. Ability to investigate safety/security matters on behalf of guests and employees.  Document accurate and pertinent information for incident reports and logs.
  5. Ability to clearly communicate via two-way radios and telephones to the dispatcher for directions/instructions and assistance, as well as supervisors and fellow officers.
  6. Ability to provide "guest" satisfaction through assistance, direction and information within property/department guidelines.
  7. Attend and participate in shift meetings to receive instructions and information regarding internal property concerns.

Assist with the verification and escort of gaming currency and table boxes to/from the casino cage(usually casino positions only)

Qualifications

Performance Requirements: (Knowledge, skills and abilities)

  1. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language clearly to ascertain and document important information, to follow written and/or verbal instructions, to provide clear direction/guidance, and to communicate with others.
  2. Social skills as demonstrated by the ability to listen and respond to employee or management inquiries/concerns using a positive, clear speaking voice, answering questions, and/or offering assistance, giving accurate information regarding plans, policies, or procedures within guidelines.
  3. Ability to perform duties within hot to normal to cold temperature ranges and unfavorable conditions which can occasionally be noisy and wet.
  4. Possess physical strength required for the job, consistent with a medium work level, as defined by the US Department of Labor.
  5. Knowledge of safety/security practices and procedures including:  C.P.R., emergency first aid, semi-automatic defibrillator and basic emergency fire equipment.
  6. Basic mathematical skills necessary to verify/balance reports and perform simple calculations.
  7. Ability to maintain attendance in conformance with standards.
  8. Ability to maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance. 

    Education Requirements

  9. Any combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  10. Ability to obtain/renew all government required licenses or certification.  [Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Gaming Work Permit; Alcohol Awareness Certificate; Valid Driver's License; American Red Cross Community First Aid and Safety Certificate and American Red Cross Adult, Infant and Child CPR Certificate).  Certified in the proper use of the semi-automatic defibrillator and handcuffing procedures.
