Job Description

The Spa & Pool Supervisor is responsible for establishing a clean, safe and relaxing environment for guests of the Spa, Pool and Fitness Center, while ensuring uncompromising levels of guest service are provided. Supervises and coordinates the day-to-day operations of the Spa and Pool. Responsible for supervising, training, certification and performance of all lifeguards and pool attendants, massage therapists/aestheticians including but not limited to the delivery of a consistent guest experience.

 

Role and Responsibilities: (Includes but is not limited to the following)

  • Interview and select potential employees, review employees performance, schedule staff based on business needs.  Train employees on proper procedures and policies, guest relations and assigned duties.
  • Performs massage and body treatments as scheduled.
  • Remains current on new treatment trends and products and makes recommendation/changes/additions for menu.
  • Assists in developing procedures and maintaining all operations involving the Spa, Pool and Fitness Center.
  • Inspect and maintain entire recreational deck.  Insure safest possible facility for guests.  Resolve guest complaints or problems.
  • Physically inspects recreation deck to guest hazards and miscellaneous maintenance and orders work as needed.
  • Monitor business levels and staffing to make adjustments as needed.
  • Relate with guests on a one-to-one basis to resolve any problems/complaints to guest's satisfaction and within hotel policies and procedures.  Relate with guests on friendly basis to maintain good image of hotel and department.
  • To attend hotel operations meetings, safety meetings, pre-convention receptions, and other various committee meetings.
  • Is knowledgeable about the facility, the property and its amenities in order to effectively communicate with guests.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Performance Requirements: (Knowledge, skills and abilities)

  • Social skills as demonstrated by the ability to effectively deal with internal/external guests, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy to diffuse, collect accurate information and resolve problems and concerns.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity of hand in order to operate personal computer, computer keyboard, typewriter, photo copier, calculator, multi-line telephone, exercise instruction and general knowledge of pool, sauna and steam equipment to perform job functions/assist guests.
  • Understand that as a representative of the Spa they will maintain a healthy, fit appearance and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to walk, stand and work 75% of shift walking a maximum of 2 miles.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language clearly to ascertain and document important information, to follow written and/or verbal instructions and to provide clear direction/guidance.  Ability to relate to all levels of management, employees and guests in verbal/written form.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to provide clear direction, instruction and guidance to staff.  Assign and instruct all personnel in details of work.  Observe performance and encourage improvement.  Monitor workload and make staffing adjustments accordingly.
  • Ability to sit and work 25% of shift.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize work, meet deadlines, work with minimal supervision/multiple interruptions, exercise judgment and adapt instructions/directions from one assignment to another.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and implement control over the performance of subordinates.
  • Ability to deal with a number of problems requiring initiative and good judgment.
  • Good working knowledge of accepted standards of sanitation.
  • Ability to act independently while analyzing data and drawing conclusions from written and computer generated materials.
  • Remain calm and alert, especially during emergency situations and/or heavy hotel activity, serving as a role model for other employees.  Resolve customer complications and complaints by conducting thorough research of the situation and the most effective solutions.  Make decisions and take action based on previous experience and good judgment, sometimes revising procedures to accommodate unusual situations.  Authorize revenue allowances to remedy problems only after other alternative solutions have been offered.
  • Respond to guest inquiries.  Provide guest satisfaction through assistance, direction and information within hotel guidelines.
  • Answer the multi-line telephone and provide information as needed.
  • Mathematical skills necessary to complete forecasts/budgets and analyze reports.
  • Ability to maintain attendance in conformance with standards.
  • Ability to maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance..
  • Ability to access and input information using a moderately complex computer system.

 

Typical physical / mental demands

  • Ability to grasp, bend, lift, carry, push supplies weighing a maximum of 50 lbs. on an intermittent basis.

 

Typical Working Condition:

  • Work is performed in a spa, fitness center, and outdoor pool area as well as office space environment in a limited access of space: contact with department heads, staff and management; and ability to tolerate varying conditions of noise level, temperature, illumination and air quality.

 

Experience  Requirements

2 years Leadership experience in hospitality industry, 1 year lifeguard experience, 1 year Massage, Aesthetics, Nail Technology or Cosmetology in a resort environment.

 

Education Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent.

 

Desirables:

Lifeguard Certification, CPR Certification, Licensed in Massage Therapy, Aesthetics, Nail Therapy or Cosmetology
