Love talking to people? Join a team where great conversations make a real difference.
The Opportunity
If you’re a natural communicator who genuinely enjoys helping people, this could be the role for you.
As a Student Services Assistant, you’ll be one of the friendly voices helping current students navigate university life. Working in a busy, contact centre-style environment, you’ll connect with students every day through phone, email and online channels, listening to their questions, providing clear and accurate information and helping them find their way to the right service or support.
You’ll handle a high volume of routine enquiries, using established procedures, policies and resources to provide timely and consistent answers. You’ll need to be comfortable having lots of conversations throughout the day, quickly understanding what someone needs and making sure they leave the interaction feeling heard, supported and confident about their next step.
Not every enquiry will be straightforward. You’ll use your judgement to recognise when something is complex or sensitive, knowing when you can resolve an enquiry yourself and when it’s important to connect the student with the right person or specialist team. You’ll also keep accurate records, update systems and work closely with colleagues across the University to help deliver a consistent student experience.
What Success Looks Like:
- You provide friendly, clear and accurate support across phone, email and web channels.
- You confidently manage a high volume of enquiries while maintaining a positive student experience.
- You listen carefully, understand what students need and provide the right information or referral.
- You recognise complex or sensitive matters and escalate them appropriately.
- You contribute positively to the team and share feedback that helps improve the student experience.
Please refer to the Position Description for full details.
About You
We’re looking for people who love working with people and bring warmth, patience and confidence to every conversation.
You’ll bring:
- Demonstrated customer service experience in a busy, service-focused environment. Contact centre or call centre experience will be highly regarded.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and explain information clearly to a diverse range of people.
- The ability to stay calm, organised and customer-focused while managing a high volume of enquiries and competing priorities.
- Experience using administrative, contact centre or student systems, or the confidence and willingness to quickly learn new systems and processes.
- A collaborative approach and genuine commitment to creating a positive and supportive service experience for students.
You don’t need to know everything about university services on day one. What matters is that you’re curious, willing to learn, comfortable talking to people and committed to getting the right outcome for the person you’re helping.
