Job Description

This position is part of our Early Career program at WD. Our Early Career program is designed to support individuals beginning their professional careers by providing foundational training through a structured onboarding, mentorship, and development curriculum.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible in Head-Disk-Interface Integration related work for product improvement (yield/quality/test time).

  • Lead and manage Head–Disk Interface (HDI) integration efforts to improve product yield, quality, and test time.
  • Support tribology improvement initiatives for sustaining products to enhance performance and long-term reliability.
  • Perform and support data analysis on yield, quality, reliability, and test results to do failure trend monitoring , root causes and improvement opportunities.
  • Conduct comprehensive failure analysis and provide actionable feedback to cross-functional teams for continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate closely with Fujisawa Head–Disk Interface (HDI) Development, CMI, CESC, SQE, and Head/Media teams to improve product cleanliness and ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Partner with Head and Media teams to optimize manufacturing and integration processes, with a focus on yield, quality, cost, and supply chain efficiency.
  • Support qualification activities for Head and Media Engineering Changes (ECs).
  • Actively participate in the early ramp-up of HAMR (Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording) products, driving improvements in tribology and related areas.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Material Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency in programming for data analytics (Python, C++, SQL)

PREFERRED:

  • Knowledge or experience in Head–Disk Interface (HDI), tribology, or HDD-related technologies.
  • Project experience in data analysis, statistical or yield analysis.
  • Familiarity with failure analysis techniques and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional and global teams.
  • Good communication and presentation skills.

SKILLS

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication skills in English and the ability to collaborate effectively with a global team. 
  • Basic knowledge of statistical analysis and quality tools (e.g., Excel, JMP, Minitab).
  • Ability to perform failure analysis and support root cause investigations.
  • Understanding of engineering fundamentals related to materials, tribology, or mechanical systems.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt in a fast-paced development environment.
