Job Description

We are seeking highly motivated university students to learn and contribute hands-on while working on our engineering teams during Summer 2023. Current student pursing a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related field and graduating December 2023 and beyond are encouraged to apply.

We are recruiting for a firmware engineering role: 

  • Firmware Engineer supports analysis, design, programming, debugging and software modification. Team members are responsible for code for firmware (IC embedded code) applications. Work often involves analog and digital hardware and software operating systems. Positions require knowledge and exposure to hardware design. Typically programs in machine language, assembly language and high level languages (e.g., C, C++). 

Specifically in this role, we are looking for someone who will:

  1. Work alongside senior firmware engineers to develop and test firmware for next-generation heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) HDDs using best practices like unit test, integration tests, CI and Agile methodologies.
  2. Participate in prototyping and developing novel measurements for HAMR HDDs.
  3. Improve the quality of existing code through failure analysis/debugging and code refactoring. 

Qualifications

Required Skills

  • Current student pursuing a BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science or related field
  • Students who are graduating December 2023-June 2024 are encouraged to apply
  • Fluent in C/C++ coding
  • Developing technical skills and area of study towards, but not limited to, analog and/or digital electronics
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications 
  • Interest in HDD, flash, semiconductor, components, nonvolatile memory industry

DESIRED SKILLS and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Embedded firmware experience
  • Familiarity with micro-controller architecture (ie. ARM), embedded systems and RTOS
  • Familiar with Modern C++ (11/14/17/20)
  • Familiar with scripting languages such as Python

Compensation & Benefits Details

  • An employee’s pay position within the salary range may be based on several factors including but not limited to (1) relevant education; qualifications; certifications; and experience; (2) skills, ability, knowledge of the job; (3) performance, contribution and results; (4) geographic location; (5) shift; (6) internal and external equity; and (7) business and organizational needs.
  • The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting.  We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Colorado or remote jobs that can be performed in Colorado.  This range may be modified in the future.
  • If your position is non-exempt, you are eligible for overtime pay pursuant to company policy and applicable laws.  You may also be eligible for shift differential pay, depending on the shift to which you are assigned.
