Job Description

Western Digital’s Test Process Engineering (TPE) team seeks a New College Graduate to join its Tester and Automation Platform Development (TAPD) team located in Irvine, California. The successful candidate will work with a team of highly qualified software and firmware architects and engineers to develop a common flexible and abstracted platform across Enterprise and Client spaces. This position offers significant positive financial impact and the opportunity to contribute to improved factory efficiency.

The candidate will participate in the design and implementation of Advanced Automated Tester Host software as well as Low Level Device Drivers to facilitate high-speed communication with Hard Drives under test, using an advanced development environment and tools based on C++ and JAVA. Applicants should have a good working knowledge of Software, Firmware, and Object-Oriented Embedded programming as well as System Interlock design. The ideal candidate will have strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a team environment. Domestic or international travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or equivalent degree
  • Foundational understanding of Software and Firmware design and implementation
  • C / C++ / Java programming experience
    • Embedded Firmware development experience is a plus
    • Linux programing is a plus
  • Familiarity with hardware debug instrumentation, such as oscilloscopes and bus analyzers
    • Knowledge of bus trace analyzers and logic analyzers is plus
  • Knowledge of Hard Drive interfaces (SAS, SATA) is a plus
  • Familiarity with real-time OS concepts (i.e., multi-threads, deadlocks, semaphores, mutex, race conditions, etc.)
  • Ability to contribute to the development of validation / test plans; anticipate test points in advance of feature design; run test scenarios; and duplicate issues
  • Willingness to gain hands-on experience with debugging environments, including bench setup for tester hardware and software
  • Aptitude for problem solving and analysis, using systematic methodology
  • Good team player with strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to organize tasks and deliverables efficiently, for each assigned project

  • An employee’s pay position within the salary range may be based on several factors including but not limited to (1) relevant education; qualifications; certifications; and experience; (2) skills, ability, knowledge of the job; (3) performance, contribution and results; (4) geographic location; (5) shift; (6) internal and external equity; and (7) business and organizational needs.
  • The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting.  We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Colorado or remote jobs that can be performed in Colorado.  This range may be modified in the future.
  • You will be eligible to participate in Western Digital’s Short-Term Incentive (STI) Plan, which provides incentive awards based on Company and individual performance.  Depending on your role and your performance, you may be eligible to participate in our annual Long-Term Incentive (LTI) program, which consists of restricted stock units (RSUs) or cash equivalents, pursuant to the terms of the LTI plan.
