Job Description

  • Stays current with firmware development methodologies.
  • Typical activities include project managing with cross functional teams comprising of Firmware Developer, Validation teams, Applications Engineers and Test Development which may include but not limited to its design work and implementation of data structures, software algorithms, data path, and drivers for Hardware cores to deliver cutting-edge storage products.
  • Work on resource planning, priority settings, project schedule commits of key milestones, delivery and deployment management.
  • Follows department processes and guidelines for firmware development project life cycle.
  • Works with cross functional teams (including Marketing teams, Customer teams, Program Management, NPI, Product Engineering and Quality) to bring up new customer request related to firmware feature configuration, parameter settings, hardware and develop embedded firmware for storage products.
  • Produce, maintain and release customer configuration and feature settings i.e. Datashack (WD proprietary tool).
  • Produce, maintain and publish project schedule, major milestones, key deliverables and project closure criteria.
  • Able to review and understand design documents pertinent to the various phases of firmware development generated by firmware developer.
  • Able to provide workload and project priorities based on in-depth knowledge on technical roadmap/availability, business & marketing strategy, customer requirement and program team (PMO) direction.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor or Master in Computer Science, Computer/Electronics Engineering or equivalent required.
  • Relevant experience of project managing in embedded firmware development.
  • Competent and experienced in Project Management Tools such as Microsoft Projects (or equivalent project planning tool).
  • Capable of quickly learning and familiarizing on firmware architecture, hardware, systems, tools, and methodologies.
  • Competent with business process, customer and stakeholder management as well as project schedule management.

PREFERRED:

  • Familiarity with micro-controller architecture (ARM or ARC), embedded systems is desirable.
  • Knowledge in SATA, SAS and PCIE is a plus.
  • Knowledge of BPMN 2.0 is a plus.
  • PMP Certification is a plus.

SKILLS:

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) – able to communicate to all levels and cross functional.
  • Must have a high degree of problem solving skills and solutions oriented.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage projects and tasks to deliver deadlines and commitments.
  • Be able to work under pressure for quick resolution and delivery.
  • Able to work in a team or independently.
