Job Description

Embedded Firmware ASIC Validation Engineer

The ASIC Development Team is seeking highly motivated engineers with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science to be a part of an SOC / ASIC Validation Team providing chips into the exciting world of digital data storage used in everything from cloud storage, automotive, PC's, gaming, and surveillance.  WD is a world leader in providing data storage to so much of what we all use on a daily basis.  This is a role for a candidate that is a self-starter with ambitions for developing a broad set of ASIC hardware and embedded firmware expertise with opportunities for career advancement. 

As an ASIC Validation Engineer and member of the Global ASIC Development Team you will develop embedded C firmware for use in system level testing of complex hardware in System On Chip (SOC) ASIC’s that control HDD data storage devices.  You would also co-architect a real-time embedded C environment for use on a multi-processor custom ASIC.  You will work with state-of-the-art silicon technologies and prototyping platforms to contribute to the success of industry leading data storage control ASIC’s that get deployed into high volume consumer and enterprise products

Qualifications

  • Electrical Engineering or Computer Science degree (EE preferred)
  • BS with 7+ years experience or MS with 6+ years experience
  • Skilled in ASIC hardware and embedded firmware
  • Experienced with embedded C/C++ firmware.  Some assembly code is a plus
  • Data storage experience preferred
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong team player with excellent collaboration skills
  • Familiarity with structured problem solving in a team environment
  • Interest in HDD, SSD, flash, semiconductor, components, nonvolatile memory industry
  • Hands-on role must be comfortable with hardware, software, and lab test equipment

  • An employee’s pay position within the salary range may be based on several factors including but not limited to (1) relevant education; qualifications; certifications; and experience; (2) skills, ability, knowledge of the job; (3) performance, contribution and results; (4) geographic location; (5) shift; (6) internal and external equity; and (7) business and organizational needs.
  • The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting.  We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Colorado or remote jobs that can be performed in Colorado.  This range may be modified in the future.
