Job Description
As an Electrical Component Engineer you will contribute to the electrical design of enterprise storage enclosures and servers consisting of hard drives, fans, power supplies and printed circuit board assemblies with high-speed communication interfaces. Your creative thinking and judgment will help facilitate the resolution of technical, supply chain, cost, and schedule issues. This is a high-impact, high visibility opportunity for the right individual who has developed a substantial skill set in component engineering, has good initiative and self-management abilities, a can-do attitude, and enthusiasm for success.
Responsibilities:
- Assisting design teams with selection of electrical components to mitigate supply chain risk and minimize cost
- Identifying multiple sources for electrical components used in new designs to moderate line down and obsolescence issues that could otherwise force emergency PCBA redesigns.
- Value engineering existing products to improve margins by identifying cost competitive, quality alternate components and suppliers to enable BOM cost reduction
- Collecting & validating specifications, conducting parametric analysis, technical risk assessment on various component types such as Passives, Discrete Semiconductors, IC’s, Logic Devices, Memories, High Speed Electrical Connectors, Timing devices, etc.
- Supporting on-going production of existing products by identifying alternate parts & manufacturers with form, fit and function equivalent analysis on the above listed commodities.
- Awareness of component qualification tests and standards with the ability to analyze and review quality and reliability test information from suppliers on all component types listed above.
- Planning and executing lab testing of components to verify performance and compatibility for use in new or existing products
- Working with cross functional teams such as Procurement, Supply chain, Manufacturing and Engineering to resolve issues with respect to component availability, quality, and reliability.
- Adding suppliers to the AVL and Agile. Part number and AVL management with revision controls
- Understanding of different compliance requirements like RoHS, REACH, Full Material Content Declaration, etc.
- Providing data for assessing and reporting to management potential margin gains from value engineering work
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- BS/BE/B-Tech in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics)
- 3+ years of experience in component selection based on the requirements provided by design engineers.
- Ability to read schematics and understand PCB layout files
- Deep understanding of electrical component functionality, quality, and reliability
- Expertise at using standard electronic lab equipment to test and characterize components and circuits
- Fluency with Microsoft Office tools including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Willingness and ability to work individually, and as a team member, to ensure commitments are met
Desired Qualifications:
- Familiarity with electronic component manufacturing processes
- Experience and understanding of end to end supplier product change/discontinuance notification process.
- Background using AGILE PLM for adding new components to a bill of materials and electrical design library.
- Experience using standard electrical component database tools to make data driven decisions for component engineering activities.
- Circuit and PCBA design experience
