Job Description

The HDD Business Unit is leading the charge to deliver compelling products and solutions to empower the next phase of the data revolution. Our product portfolio leverages innovative technologies that set the standard for the highest areal density and reliability commensurate with the best TCO in the industry. he HDD Product Development team is looking for entry level engineers to join our teams and learn hands on as we support the design, implementation and failure analysis of hard disk drives with significant emphasis on read/write of the media (disk). Ideal candidates will have recently earned or are pursuing a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. In applying for this opportunity, you would be considered for the following roles:

 

  • Firmware Engineer (4) – Firmware Engineers support analysis, design, programming, debugging and software modification. Team members are responsible for code for firmware (IC embedded code) applications. Ideal candidates are familiar with micro-processors and microcontrollers, real time operating systems (RTOS) and embedded firmware, can code in C with an understanding of basic Boolean logic, and knowledge of ARM is a plus

 

  • System Engineer (1) – In this role, your responsibilities include operating test units in specific modes for validation, hands-on measurements using scopes, data compilations and analysis, documentation and presentation of discoveries and making recommendations on corrective actions. What's more, the job also includes design, implementation, verification and validation of System Features. This work will involve collaborations with team members outside of the systems group, requiring in-depth understanding of principles of HDD operation regarding a variety of system functions. Instrumentations involving digital scopes, bus analyzer, emulator, and experiences in bench work highly desired. This role will work with a staff engineer who will serve as a mentor. Ideal candidates have a strong skillset in C++, Python and Matlab.

 

  • Development Engineer (1) - This engineer primarily supports both firmware and hardware in coding and failure analysis. Role responsibilities include: HDD LDPC Channel optimization firmware support, HDD Intelligent Burn In firmware support, and HDD channel hardware integration support. There is an opportunity to be trained in channel hardware and product usage with a Sr. Engineer who will serve as a mentor. Over time, you will be able to take over the responsibilities for the role in full. Idea candidates have a knowledge in communication theory, signal processing, and are proficient in C and C++.

Qualifications

  • University students who graduated or are graduating from May 2020 to December 2021 with a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field Creative, self-learner with superior teamwork skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work on the resolution of any issue and to interact with various interdepartmental engineering and support organizations.
  • Demonstrated project driving skills, capable of managing projects with set milestones and timeline, and ability to execute with minimal supervision
