Western Digital is seeking a software solutions architect for a leadership role in an internal engineering tools organization. This organization provides critical software toolsets to product development and validation teams developing flash and hard drive storage products. The toolsets address a wide range of problems in functional areas such as DevOps/CI/CD, process/workflow automation, test infrastructure, failure analysis, and analytics. The technology stacks range from custom storage drivers to middleware to web applications to analytics tools using ML. The deployment environments range from developer desktops to large-scale on-premise data centers or cloud. The software solutions architect will work with multiple tools development teams as well as internal users of the toolsets to architect end to end solutions with a goal to improve the productivity and efficiency of the product organizations.

Responsibilities include 

• Provide architectural leadership across multiple interdependent engineering teams, architects, tools and solutions
• Understand user needs and priorities, define system and functional requirements, conceptualize solutions, and architect end-to-end pragmatic solutions
• Work hand-on as needed providing support throughout the product life cycle
• Influence product roadmaps with a goal to enable higher efficiencies in the organization
• Drive technology roadmaps and strategy
• Identify and address cross-cutting concerns across multiple tools such as UI/UX, performance, etc.

• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in computer science/engineering
• Significant experience in leading architectural efforts in diverse fields
• Experience with developing software that is deployed in a production environment
• Strong development experience in one or more of areas such as web applications, network and data intensive large-scale applications, and distributed applications.
• Expertise in analyzing architectural tradeoffs and finding a way forward to get things done
• Strong communication and inter-personal skills to influence a range of stakeholders from developers to senior management at all levels
• Ability to think strategically, motivate and mobilize resources, and deliver results
• Experience with a modern both server-side and front-end technology stacks and multiple programming languages
• Experience in agile development methodologies
• Passion to solve problems, learn, experiment, and adapt
• Personal drive to achieve and a growth mindset
