The Team & Technology
Our Product, Technology & UX department is a diverse group of people, working from 3 locations (Amsterdam NL, Aix en Provence FR and Berlin DE) on a central technology platform for all our country specific brands. We are organised in multidisciplinary teams that take care of each part of the user journey. The teams consist of people with different skill sets to build the desired features. We firmly believe in Agile principles and practices, and apply them in each team. The data engineering team is responsible for the event collection, transformation and exposure of data through cloud solutions of AWS. The data science team is building different prediction models to support our business and maintains different API endpoints to provide our product with recommendations to our customers. The people in the teams are distributed across our three locations.
We are looking for a senior and experienced leader in data with a background in (data) engineering, who has the mission to bring the way we collect, use and adapt data to the next level and transform our company to be truly data driven. You will be responsible for leading our data engineering & data science activities. You are able to balance crafting a product vision on data with driving engineering and science activities.
Within your role you see new opportunities to further improve the way we collect data that will support our product teams to build new features that are depending on data insights and data science. Your data vision and strategy is the backbone of our data engineering roadmap and will guide us to a modern data platform. When required you adapt the strategy based on learnings and best practices in the industry.
You are a data evangelist and will build a strong relationship with the Product development teams in order to enable them to improve our services. You design the data organisation to build data pipelines so we can maximise the usage of data.
As a director you are supporting 3 product managers and 1 engineering manager to guide them in steering the data teams in the right direction. You coach them to further improve their skills to work more autonomously while following the data strategy.
What we expect from you
Understand and explore industry best practices on the data subject, use them as a blueprint for our data vision and strategy.
Manage communication with stakeholders, identify external requirements, opportunities and threats and translate them into actionable initiatives with the teams
Gather a deep understanding of developer workflow and help the team find solutions to continuously improve on it
Drive the decision making process on tooling, data modelling and infrastructure with the engineers and scientists
Coach and guide the product managers and engineering manager of the data teams to implement the right features to enable our product development teams
Willingness to travel and facilitate team building cross country
Tangible experience with leading data engineering efforts in a technology driven company
Experience working in a technical (product) position, with good technical knowledge of how data engineer and data science works
Experience in an AWS or GCP (streaming) event driven technology stack
Servant leader, with great management and coaching skills
Experience working in an agile environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Reliable, communicative and active team player
