What’s Operations at Wellmark? Our Operations division has over six hundred employees who manage important work such as enrolling our members, loading benefits, credentialing our providers, sending documents, paying claims, answering calls, training our employees, Operations Compliance, Operations Analytics, and Quality Assurance. We are one team united to provide the best service for our members and providers.
What projects might I support? Although subject to change, examples of projects are included below:
- Collaborate with Operations Analytics on reporting and data analysis
- Conduct side by sides with Operations teams to identify opportunities to streamline and optimize processes
- Work with Customer Service to analyze calls, give feedback, and find customer improvement opportunities
- Collaborate with Operations teams on day-to-day activities
- Engage in strategic planning and execution
- Assist with product rollout implementation
- Enhance business acumen in health care and work directly with members and providers

This internship will start in May of 2025, working a hybrid schedule from our headquarters in Des Moines.
Qualifications
- Must be a freshmen or sophomore student studying Operations, Finance, Engineering, Business Insurance, Health Care Management, Risk Management & Insurance, Business Management, Business Analytics, or related programs.
- Excellent research skills and profound curiosity to dig deep to find insights.
- Ability to measure and evaluate data.
- Strong collaboration, presentation and organizational skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively work with the business areas.
- Ability to see a task through to completion independently and as a team member.
- Proven problem solving and analytical thinking skills.
- Demonstrated computer skills with Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
- Demonstrated project leadership skills with the ability to take initiative
Preferred:
- Prior experience in a business setting
