Job Description
Use your strengths as a Pharmacy Clinical Account Consultant at Wellmark!
In this Sales and Account Management role, you will provide pharmaceutical and health management sales and business development support to Wellmark’s account services, business development and proposal teams. This includes marketing new and existing clinical strategies to control costs, as well as a diverse pharmacy and health management product and services portfolio. You will support the RFP/RFI process and help set retention strategies for designated existing clients to continually demonstrate the value of Wellmark pharmacy products and services while supporting implementation strategies to ensure a seamless transition for new clients.
If hired at the Senior level, this team member will not only be a subject matter expert for internal and external stakeholders but will serve as a mentor and informal lead on the Pharmacy Clinical Account team. They will also jump into plan performance discussions and clinical update reviews to drive strategic initiatives.

This position will work a hybrid schedule of at least 3 days in a Wellmark office, with 2 days remote option.
Qualifications
Pharmacy Clinical Account Consultant - Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in pharmacy OR PharmD.
- Active and unrestricted Pharmacy license in Iowa or South Dakota (individual must be licensed in the state in which they reside) is required within 6 months from date of hire.
- 2+ years of experience in a PBM, health plan, pharmaceutical sales, or related industry.
- Broad understanding of the health care delivery system, managed care and pharmacy benefit management systems, plan design and overall health management operations.
- Strong understanding of PBM/health plan sales and marketing best practices.
- Understanding of strategic account management, including lead development/generation, development of carve-in/out strategies, building/selling customized client solutions, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to understand the needs of others, ask meaningful questions, and distill information into relevant insights in order to support the development of customized solutions that meet customer needs. Adaptable and effective with change.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to review and analyze data to communicate the story with actionable results.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to interpret and articulate complex information (e.g., value proposition, clinical information, drug spend) to varying audiences including senior leadership and non-clinical audiences. Strong group facilitation and presentation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to consult and negotiate to drive account retention and/or growth.
- Understanding of applicable rules, regulations, and guidelines with an awareness of potential implications to pharmacy and health management.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office & advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, trend analysis, formulas, etc.). Technical aptitude to learn new systems quickly.
- Ability to travel as needed.
- Ability to coach and mentor others.
Sr Pharmacy Clinical Account Consultant - Additional Required Qualifications:
- 4+ years of experience in a PBM, health plan, pharmaceutical sales, or related industry.
- Strong understanding of strategic account management, including lead development/generation, development of carve-in/out strategies, building/selling customized client solutions, etc.
- Natural curiosity with the ability to identify creative, innovative solutions that support/achieve long-range strategic objectives.
Preferred Qualifications:
- MBA.
- Strong understanding of PBM/health plan sales and marketing best practices.
- Understanding of strategic account management, including lead development/generation, development of carve-in/out strategies, building/selling customized client solutions, etc.
Additional Information
What you will do as a Pharmacy Clinical Account Consultant:
a. Serve as a pharmacy and health management resource by working cross functionally to understand Wellmark’s pharmacy and health management programs and services and develop a segment specific PBM sales strategy around retention and business development.
b. Serve as a clinical liaison and subject matter resource between PBM, clients (prospective and current), Wellmark internal pharmacy operations and account management teams and external group decision makers.
c. Develop sales training and marketing materials in accordance with Wellmark’s pharmacy benefit value proposition for each segment of the Wellmark portfolio. Collaborate on the development of Wellmark’s strategy for managing drug costs and assist account management and sales staff in selling pharmacy and health management products and services.
d. Support the development and ongoing maintenance of strategic sales messages for responses to RFP/RFI from large account customers and consultants. Will participate in finalist presentations, customer presentations and strategic account meetings across designated clients.
e. Analyze, interpret, and develop written recommendations using client specific claims data to improve overall healthcare outcomes and control client specific drug spend. Translate complex clinical information into effective communications with both clinical and non-clinical external and internal stakeholders. Collaborate with Wellmark’s Analytic Consulting department to align reporting capabilities promoting Wellmark Pharmacy Program financial value to our self-funded customers.
f. Collaborate with the product and market implementation team in the development and marketing of pharmacy related products and services.
g. Use industry knowledge to assist in developing customer centric solutions to current pharmacy/healthcare trends affecting their overall cost. Understand the clinical landscape and effectively communicate clinical changes to programs, services, and formularies to key customers as necessary.
h. Other duties as assigned.
