Sr. Consultant – Financial Modeler
As a Senior Consultant in Wavestone's Business Consulting practice, you will serve as a trusted business advisor to our clients while leading a variety of business-related engagements. You will have the opportunity to be a hands-on leader, gathering and analyzing data, exploring innovative solutions, making actionable recommendations, and communicating with key stakeholders. We are seeking an experienced Financial Modeler to join our growing team and support data-driven decision-making through advanced financial analysis and modeling. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial modeling and analysis, with a proven ability to deliver actionable insights and strategic recommendations based on financial data. This role requires proficiency in leveraging multiple data sources to develop functional models and reports, as well as advanced skills in Excel (or similar spreadsheet tools) and Power BI to perform moderate to complex analyses of capital projects. The successful candidate will also be adept at compiling clear and concise summary reports tailored to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Analyze structured and unstructured financial data to develop robust financial models and extract meaningful insights and strategic recommendations.
- Leverage financial analysis tools to evaluate portfolio options and provide data-driven advice to clients.
- Build high-quality, client-ready spreadsheets and reports using Excel, ensuring accuracy and clarity.
- Create and present clear, easy-to-understand financial models to support client decision-making.
- Collaborate with a team of financial analysts to support forecasting, scenario planning, and strategic financial decisions.
- Participate directly in client engagements, providing expert insights and ensuring projects run seamlessly from start to finish.
- Lead, facilitate, and participate in client project meetings while providing a unique point of view from a financial perspective.
- Participate in proposal development and delivery to client organizations.
- Apply expertise by monitoring and identifying project issues, mitigating risk, and ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of work.
- Confidently manage project teams, deliver structure where there is ambiguity, resolve stakeholder resistance and risks, and implement the desired outcomes.
- Work closely with diverse teams to deliver results and foster an environment to recognize and reward individual and team achievements.
- Present findings both internally at Wavestone and externally to clients, including data acquisition and insights.
- Collaborate with an internal network of skilled consultants to solve client problems and deliver high impact projects.
- Continually evolve and build a knowledge base (emergent trends, technologies, and approaches) within the area of financial consulting.
- Cultivate and maintain long term relationships with clients to identify collaborative efforts and develop new business engagement opportunities.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Business, or related fields.
- Master’s degree preferred.
Required Experience
- 3+ years of experience in financial consulting with a strong emphasis on financial modeling, delivering data-driven insights and strategic recommendations to clients across various industries.
- Excellent Excel skills or experience with similar spreadsheet software, including the use of charts, macros, and VBA; experience with Power BI.
- Solid understanding of accounting concepts and financial analysis terminology and best practices
- A keen eye for detail and an ability to sift through large data sets to extract meaningful information.
- Experience in a variety of business projects such as business integration, organizational change, brand/digital marketing, new product launches, mergers & acquisitions, or system integrations.
- Project management experience leading projects and managing project teams.
- Well-developed financial and business acumen from working in a variety of business functions including supply chain, finance, operations, HR, marketing, and sales.
- Experience in both Agile and Waterfall project methodologies. Expertise in multiple project management tools.
- Passion for identifying problems and the desire to collaborate with clients in designing and implementing simple solutions in complex and unclear situations.
- Leadership skills and the ability to manage cross-functional project teams.
- Demonstrated strategic big picture thinking paired with the ability to pivot and deep dive into the details as required.
- Expertise in Microsoft Office products including the ability to develop compelling communication of complex concepts using PowerPoint.
- Excellent time management skills, including the ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
- Confidence and presence to engage directly with clients at the senior leadership level.
- Strong written and oral communications skills including the ability to communicate concisely and clearly with both line and senior management level clients.
- Ability to travel based on client requirements.
Preferred Experience
- CFA, or diploma in financial planning
- Significant FPA experience within a mid to large enterprise
