Job Description
Major Duties:
The registered nurse renders highly professional and technical nursing care to perioperative patients. Provides direct patient care using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation). Directs and monitors other assigned team members and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to provide age/developmentally appropriate care in accordance with unit standards of care.
Essential Functions:
1.Utilizes the nursing process to ensure quality patient care is provided throughout the episode of care, with a specific focus on patient advocacy, safety, time management and anticipation of surgical team needs.
2.Ensures complete, accurate and timely computerized communication of patient information, including proper documentation of implants and specimens.
3.Demonstrates cost containment activities and provides appropriate care of instruments and inventory.
4.Communicates to the team, co-workers, patients and family members in an effective, positive and professional manner. Demonstrates, effective, positive, professional manners while exercising verbal and nonverbal communication to the multidisciplinary team, co-workers, patients and family members.
5.Takes personal responsibility and initiative for performance and for professional growth and development.
Work Environment:

Qualifications
Education / Experience: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. At least one year Operating Room experience or participation in the post-graduate program required. Refresher course required for nurses who have not worked in an Operating Room or five years or more. BSN preferred
Licensure, Certification and / or Registration: Current licensures to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina, CNOR preferred, BCLS required.
