Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated Cloud FinOps Engineer to help drive cloud financial excellence across our cloud environments. This role combines cloud engineering, financial management, cost optimization, governance, and automation to ensure that cloud investments deliver maximum business value.
The Cloud FinOps Engineer will partner closely with application teams, cloud architects, finance, procurement, and business leaders to provide transparency into cloud spending, improve forecasting accuracy, optimize cloud consumption, and establish a culture of cost accountability across the enterprise.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Analyze cloud spend trends and usage patterns across AWS, Azure, and OCI
- Identify and prioritize cost optimization opportunities through rightsizing, modernization, automation, and commitment management.
- Monitor and drive execution of optimization initiatives to ensure savings are realized.
- Establish and maintain cloud cost allocation and chargeback/show back models.
- Partner with Finance and business stakeholders to support forecasting, budgeting, and monthly variance analysis.
- Provide reporting dashboards and executive-level insights into cloud financial performance.
- Assist in developing cloud financial governance standards and operating procedures.
- Analyze and optimize Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, and cloud commitment programs.
- Design and automate cloud cost reporting, anomaly detection, forecasting, and optimization workflows.
- Develop dashboards and metrics to increase visibility into cloud consumption and waste.
- Partner with engineering teams to embed FinOps practices into CI/CD pipelines and cloud delivery processes.
- Consult with application and product teams on cloud solution design decisions.
- Educate application owners, technical teams, and business stakeholders on Cloud FinOps principles.
- Present cloud financial metrics, opportunities, and recommendations to senior leadership.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Finance, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 2+ years of cloud engineering, cloud architecture, infrastructure engineering, or FinOps experience.
- Strong understanding of cloud pricing, billing, and consumption models.
- Experience working with cloud financial management and governance processes.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- FinOps Certified Practitioner or FinOps Certified Professional.
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect or AWS Cloud Practitioner.
- Microsoft Azure Administrator or Azure Solutions Architect.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Domain expertise of cloud infrastructure solutions focusing on IaaS, business continuity, disaster recovery, security, operations excellence, and standardization
- Familiarity with security and compliance best practices in the cloud
- Experience managing enterprise-scale cloud environments.
- Experience with cloud migration programs and modernization initiatives.
- Familiarity with software asset management and cloud licensing optimization.
- Broad hands-on experience across AWS services, with deeper expertise in the following areas/services:
- IAM administration and policy writing (with a strong understanding of The Principle of Least Privilege)
- AWS Organizations for a large multi-account corporate environment
- Managing guardrails for AWS Organization Units with SCP
- Strong understanding of VPC network concepts such as subnets, routing, name services, security groups, etc.
- Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/OpenTofu), configuration management (Chef or Ansible) version control systems (Git), and CICD pipelines (GitLab) for full lifecycle management of AWS infrastructure & guardrails.
- One or more of the following languages: HCL, JSON, Python, Ruby, PowerShell, Bash, Node.js
- Knowledge of PaC (OPA/Rego) is a plus
- Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team
- Applies values, business strategy, policies, precedents, and experience to make complex decisions with uncertain consequences
- Challenges conventional thinking and traditional ways of operating and invites stakeholders to identify issues and opportunities
