Job Description

Who will you be working with?

Shuttlewagon, a Wabtec Company, is looking for an Operations Manager that will have responsibility for the entire plant operations, including developing standards of performance, measuring results, analyzing workflow, and troubleshooting problems. As the Operations Manager, you will work with other leaders, HR, Finance, and the teams reporting up to you. You will report to the VP of Operations Management.

This key position will direct the activities of the operations group and assure that the organization’s commitment to quality and on-time delivery is realized through leadership and creative thinking to solve problems that result in high customer and employee satisfaction. You will ensure cost integrity and inventory accuracy while supporting strategic sourcing initiatives that enhance overall competitiveness. Most importantly, the Operations Manager will lead with accountability and vision to deliver exceptional results that exceed customer expectations and advance Shuttlewagon’s long-term success.
 

What do we want to know about you?

  • BS in Engineering, Business or related field, or experience that is equivalent to formal education
  • Experience in Engineering or Sales is a plus
  • Demonstrated success in LEAN Enterprise and continuous improvement environments
  • Minimum of 7-10 years managing in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business documents, professional and technical journals, governmental regulations and financial reports
  • Ability to write business correspondence and reports 
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, employees and suppliers
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook software programs  
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proven management abilities
  • Professionally resolve problems (both internal and external), in a fair and ethical manner
     

What will your typical day look like?

  • Directs, coordinates, schedules and expedites all manufacturing operations to ensure completion within production schedules to meet customer delivery requirements.
  • Performs production scheduling and capacity planning to ensure resource availability and ability to meet customer delivery requirements with reasonable lead-times.
  • Develops and initiates methods and procedures for inspection, testing and evaluation of machines.
  • Increases level of machine quality to exceed customers’ expectations.
  • Controls business transactions to provide accurate costs and integrity of inventory levels while driving improvements in inventory turnover.
  • Facilitates teamwork environment with all employees and between other Wabtec Business Units.
  • Plans, organizes and administers subordinate training and development. Sets goals and objectives and conducts performance appraisals of subordinates.
  • Promotes and implements a continuous improvement culture that focuses not only on cost reduction but on safety and ideation from all levels within the organization.
  • Shares site lead responsibilities in addition to supporting functions such as safety, facilities, HR, etc. through regular onsite presence.
  • Oversees materials management team (planning, inventory management, Master Production scheduling, and logistics) to further organizational success.
  • Proven ability to build, lead, motivate and increase the team’s effectiveness, as there will be several exempt direct reports.
     

What about the physical demands of the job?

  • Work is primarily light duty and requires the ability to regularly lift and carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • This position requires the ability to sit, stand and walk unassisted.
  • Requires the use of hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls.
  • The employee is required to talk and hear.
  • Normal correctable vision is required.
  • Travel for this role will be limited.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary rate for this role is currently $104800-149300 The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. More information on offered benefits, which include health, welfare, and retirement, are available at mywabtecbenefits.com. Other benefit offerings for this role may include annual bonus, if eligible.
