Role Summary/Purpose

Quality Assurance Engineer/Engineer – Test Engineer II/Technologist, working on the Train Performance LOCOTROL® Technologies of GE Transportation – A Wabtec company.

The role will be responsible for analyzing requirements, designing test strategies, developing test plans and test cases, executing verification and validation activities, and preparing test reports for the Distributed Power (LOCOTROL®) product line.

This position requires close collaboration with Product Owners, Systems Engineers, Software Engineers, and Architects to ensure comprehensive test coverage. The engineer will be expected to contribute to test automation initiatives, support laboratory setup activities, troubleshoot complex issues, and drive quality improvements throughout the product lifecycle.

Essential Responsibilities

In this role, you will apply engineering principles to solve moderately complex technical problems and independently execute verification and validation activities.

Specific responsibilities include.

  • Collaborate with Systems Engineers and Software Engineers to define verification and validation scope.
  • Analyze system and software requirements and develop comprehensive test cases and test procedures.
  • Ensure requirements traceability and identify gaps in test coverage.
  • Develop test plans, test strategies, and test reports for assigned projects.
  • Design and execute functional, integration, system, and regression tests.
  • Identify hardware requirements and establish laboratory test environments and test benches.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and test setup issues encountered during test execution.
  • Document and communicate objective evidence generated during verification and validation activities.
  • Execute communication protocol testing involving RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, TCP/IP, UDP, Ethernet, Modbus, and RF communication interfaces.
  • Utilize protocol analyzers, packet sniffers, serial analyzers, and debugging tools for protocol verification.
  • Develop robust test cases covering normal, boundary, corner, and failure conditions.
  • Log, track, analyze, and verify software defects through closure.
  • Perform root cause analysis and support issue resolution activities.
  • Develop and maintain automated test scripts using Python, LabVIEW, TestStand, or similar tools.
  • Participate in technical reviews and provide recommendations for improving product quality and testability.
  • Support release validation and regression testing activities.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering processes, quality standards, and documentation requirements.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance on testing methodologies and best practices.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to validation processes, automation, and test infrastructure.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline from a recognized university.
  • Academic performance of at least 70%.
  • 4–6 years of experience in Software Verification & Validation, Software Testing, or System Validation.
  • Experience in Railway, Locomotive, Aerospace, Automotive, Industrial Automation, or other safety-critical domains.
  • Good understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC).
  • Experience with requirements-based testing and defect management processes.

 Desired Characteristics

  • Familiarity with software test design methodologies and verification techniques.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good collaboration and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience with requirements and test management tools such as DOORS, IBM Engineering Lifecycle Management (ELM/CLM), IBM Quality Manager, ALM, or equivalent tools.
  • Working knowledge of User Interface (UI) testing and system-level validation.
  • Hands-on experience with automation tools and scripting languages such as Python, LabVIEW, TestStand, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with communication protocols and networking concepts.
  • Familiarity with continuous integration and automated test execution environments.
  • Experience working in Agile development environments.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and support team growth.
  • Exposure to cybersecurity testing principles and secure communication validation is an added advantage.
