Role Summary/Purpose:
Embedded Lead Software Engineer is responsible for design, coding and testing of locomotive system embedded applications. This role will perform design reviews and release software following Wabtec software process and guidelines.
Essential Responsibilities:
As an Embedded Lead Software Engineer, you will be responsible for writing software, resolving software related issues coming from testing, production and field, performing reviews and releasing software. You will follow configuration management processes, use tools and best practices and ensure software quality for customers.
- Design, implement, test and release software, ensuring quality specifications are met
- Document software design and write test plans
- Resolve software issues, perform root cause analysis, and provide solutions
- Perform design and code reviews in accordance with applicable standards and guidelines
- Work cross-functionally with systems engineering, product management, simulation, verification, validation, and electronic hardware teams
- Mentor more junior team members and work with program technical leads to execute project plan and ensure quality deliverables.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Master’s in Electrical/ Computer Engineering with 3 or more years OR Bachelor's in Electrical/Computer Engineering with 5 or more years of relevant experience in software development.
- Hands on experience in C and C++ programming or similar language
- Hands on experience in Python, Shell scripting
- Design and development experience with at least one embedded and real-time software systems (Linux, QNX, RTOS, MQX, Greenhills)
- Experience with one of the following processors - Xilinx, ARM, PPC, Intel, K60
- Experience with low level HW interfaces including FPGA’s & device drivers
- Exposure to Serial, Arcnet and Ethernet based communications standards
- Exposure with software requirements, software change management, defect tracking, software build and release processes.
- Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to articulate clearly and concisely
- Self-driven, quick learner, good team player and results-oriented with a clear focus on high quality
- Advanced English Communication.
Desired Characteristics:
- Some knowledge of Matlab/Simulink
- Ability to break down problems and estimate time for development tasks.
- Knowledge of Agile and Waterfall development methodologies
- Demonstrated initiative and resourcefulness to solve problems and deliver results
