Mechanical Engineering group at WITEC, supports a multitude of business units across the globe and various projects/product lines, in the mechanical design, drawing generation and finite element (FE) calculation areas.  As a key member of this group dealing with providing design & detailing solutions for business problems & new developments within Transit Engineering, the job responsibilities are laid out as hereunder:

 

Key Result Areas:

  • Design and development of Transit Engineering products, in adherence to robust Engineering R&D processes.

  • Ensure projects are delivered within the cost and schedule objectives defined by the Business Units, with a sustained focus on achieving high-quality outcomes

  • Responsible for project planning, scope assessment, concept development, technical risk mitigation through engineering analysis and calculations, DFMEA, DFX, detailed design with comprehensive test plans, design validation, documentation, and release.

  • Collaborate with local and global cross-functional teams, including FEA, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software, Product and Program Management, on the design modification and the selection and of OEM components.

  • Work with potential suppliers to ensure parts can be manufactured as per performance and cost objectives.

  • Knowledge of structural analysis and simulation tools (FEA), with the ability to interpret results and drive design decisions.

  • Develop complex 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings, including BOMs, layouts, detailed assembly drawings, and component drawings.

  • Should have working knowledge in SolidWorks and Teamcenter (or equivalent PLM systems)

  • Support different activities for analysis, proposals, Testing & Validation, manufacturing, assembly, tooling, and inspection

  • Should have knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, casting design, and machining / manufacturing process

  • Ability to interpret engineering inputs, requirements, and specifications, and accurately estimate the effort and execution hours required for project deliverables.

  • Strong understanding and practical application of GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.

  • Working knowledge of ASME, ISO, and EN standards; exposure to international transit/rail industry standards will be an added advantage.

  • Good understanding of welding principles, fabrication methods, and applicable AWS/ISO welding standards.

  • Should have good knowledge of engineering materials including carbon and stainless steel, and heat treatment process

  • Hands-on experience in Engineering Change Management processes, ECR/ECO, ensuring effective evaluation, implementation, and closure of engineering changes

  • Review and provide technical guidance on peers’ work to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with engineering standards and best practices

Qualification

  • Bachelors / master’s degree in mechanical engineering with minimum 8 years of experience in mechanical design for industrial products or heavy engineering applications.
