Main Purpose
•Responsible for the design, development, and continuous improvement of relay products, ensuring projects and engineering activities are delivered on time, within cost, and quality targets.
•Drives VAVE (Value Analysis/Value Engineering) initiatives, product cost optimization, quality improvements, and supports cross-functional teams throughout the product lifecycle.
Responsibilities
•Lead the design, development, and continuous improvement of relays or similar low-voltage products.
•Analyze product requirements, develop technical specifications, and create design concepts/prototypes to meet customer and business needs.
•Perform detailed design engineering, including DFMEA, engineering calculations, material selection, verification and validation, and manufacturability assessments.
•Prepare component design specifications, purchase specifications, design guidelines, and engineering templates.
•Develop validation plans and manufacturing, assembly, and service instructions.
•Ensure product designs comply with technical, quality, regulatory, and performance requirements.
•Track and manage project metrics related to design quality, schedule, cost, and design reviews.
•Drive VAVE (Value Analysis/Value Engineering) and cost optimization initiatives while maintaining product performance and quality.
•Collaborate with global cross-functional teams, including engineering, program management, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain functions.
•Communicate project status, risks, deliverables, and technical solutions to stakeholders through reviews, meetings, and project dashboards.
•Apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve technical challenges and ensure successful project execution.
•Ensure product development projects meet budget, schedule, operational, and quality objectives.
•Promote a culture of speed, simplification, collaboration, innovation, and digitalization.
Minimum Qualifications / Professional Experience
•Bachelor’s / Master’s Degree in Mechanical / Electrical / Electromechanical or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) or equivalent.
•Minimum 4 years of professional experience in the design of electromechanical relays ideally in Railway but could be automotive, aerospace or other similar industry.
•Competencies Professional / Personal
•Strong knowledge of electromechanical relays, electromagnetic devices, and low-voltage switchgear products.
•Experience in product design and development using CAD tools such as Creo, SolidWorks, Inventor, or equivalent.
•Expertise in Reliability Engineering, including RAMS, MTBF analysis, DFMEA, PFMEA, and Functional Failure Analysis.
•Knowledge of injection molded plastic component design, materials selection, and manufacturing processes.
•Experience in Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), automated manufacturing, and additive manufacturing.
•Good understanding of material science, including magnetic materials used in relay applications.
•Proficiency in PLM tools (e.g., Teamcenter) for document management, drawing control, requirements management, and engineering change control.
•Proven ability to deliver high-quality product designs with a strong understanding of product development and project management principles.
•Sound knowledge of product verification, validation, testing, and regulatory compliance.
•Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
•Ability to influence and collaborate effectively with global cross-functional teams.
•Self-motivated, proactive, adaptable, and open-minded with a continuous improvement mindset.
•Willingness to travel occasionally within India and internationally
