Job Description

Build, manage and improve on a continuous improvement basis the industrial mindset. Get oriented and connected activities of the site, meeting the needs of the customer. Reach and optimize the goals in terms of Quality, Cost, Deliveries. Drive the site to a safe and a world class industrial excellence level.

 

Responsibilities

Organization

  • Line manager of 2~4 operators who work in the same time frame (shift)

Within the framework of Industrial Excellence implementation, the Team Leader responsibilities are:

QCD-P (Quality Cost Deliveries) Performance:

  • Make sure Quality Cost and Delivery indicators reflect customer expectations
  • Lead Kaizen Workshop on the shop floor.
  • Be responsible for Safety, Health and Environment in Production
  • Define, together with the supervisors of the other shifts and the Small Factory Unit manager, Quality Cost Deliveries targets for the Cells (improvement versus actual situation): ppm, Efficiency, absenteeism, number of accidents, improvement ideas…
  • Monitor performance during the shift and report accurate data at the end of the shift to management and visual communication boards
  • Manage resources to reach results: adapt headcount to volume, etc
  • React in case of a problem: take care of immediate containment, call support functions, build corrective action plans
  • Replace team leader when necessary
  • Drive actions for improvement:
    • Know team problems, seek feedbacks
    • Define area for performance improvements
    • Drive teamwork and problem-solving activities, lead Problem Solving Groups and workshops (5S, Kaizen, Total Productive Maintenance, Single Minute Exchange of Die, Quality Basics…)
    • Drive improvement ideas generation and implementation
    • Ensure audits of standardized work are conducted by Cell leaders on a daily basis and ensure corrective actions are taking place.
    • Audit once a week with each team Leader the respect of standardized work
    • Aim to devote 70% of his/her time to improvement actions

People Management

Leading by example in terms of rigor and discipline:

  • Be permanently present on the Shop floor: daily contact with all team members, close management of the lines
  • Coach Autonomous team leaders and team members in how to perform their role
  • Support and help to fix problems
  • Ensure discipline and rigor (work wear, break times, working hours…)
  • Ensure the respect of safety instructions, policies and procedures
  • Participate to selection and recruitment of staff
  • Ensure proper induction of new operators on the line
  • Build training plan to increase team autonomy
  • Ensure training and coaching of team members
  • Manage annual performance interviews for all team members
  • Plan development of the people (validation and support from Small Factory Unit manager and Human Resources Manager when appropriate): training, job evolution
  • Validation of skill matrix.
  • Ensure recognition upon individual performance: propose promotion and merit increase; take part of the decision process
  • Ensure proper flow of information to and from the team: top 5 with team leaders, regular information meetings, rapid escalation of critical information.

Team work

  • Ensure transparent timely communication with Small Factory Unit manager and internal customers
  • Arrive before start of shift in order to ensure transfer of all information from the supervisor of previous shift
  • Participate with supervisory colleagues to improvement of Small Factory Unit performance
  • Participate to Small Factory Unit Top 5 and report line performance, successes and issues as well as action initiated.

 

Education/Training

Fresh Engineering Degree or Master in Sciences / Business or equivalent or

Relevant Technician
