Job Description

Role Summary / Purpose

The APAC Product Director defines and executes the product strategy of 4 Rolling Stock Components product lines for the APAC region - primary focus on China - and is accountable for driving cost competitiveness of products manufactured at FMT China. 

The position aligns regional engineering and industrial activities with global strategies and with decision authority on local product roadmaps and go-to-market priorities.

Key Responsibilities

1. APAC Customer & Market Engagement

- Act as the regional multi-product interface for key train builders and operators (with primary focus on CRCC/HRC and Chinese operators).

- Support global Product Directors of Doors, Platform Screen Doors, HVAC and Power Collection in positioning products during commercial and technical discussions.

- Capture and communicate regional market requirements, trends, and competitive insights.

- Ensure coordination and consistency of product messages across product lines.

2. Cost Leadership for Products Manufactured in China

- Lead cost optimization, value engineering, design-to-cost, and industrial competitiveness initiatives.

- Align cost actions with global product architecture and long-term strategy.

- Implement sustainable cost improvements with engineering, procurement, and industrialization teams.

- Contribute to global standardization efforts.

3. Product Technical Governance & Global Portfolio Integration

- Ensure technical alignment governance between APAC R&D, local teams, and global Product Directors while driving local decisions on innovation, reuse, scalability, and support cross-regional deployment.

- Approve local developments to ensure product strategies to meet regional requirements, compliance with global product standards, architecture, and governance processes.

- Shape global product competitiveness by owning China’s strategic technical and industrial contribution.

4. Governance, Authority & Cross-Functional Leadership

- Report to the transit engineerig leader with functional reporting to  global Product Directors.

- Hold formal decision rights and budget authority once agreed with the Product Lines for APAC product strategy, cost programs, and regional deployment plans.

- Lead APAC product strategic planning and support the China industrial footprint evolution.

- Drive cross-functional, ensure teams accountable for product performance, cost delivery, and strategic alignment.

Key Performance Targets & Means

- Business development actions for commercial success.

- Cost reduction initiatives improving product line competitiveness.

- Ability to drive collaboration between East and West.

- Accountable for managing financial expenditures within the budget defined with the product lines, based on savings targets and innovation payback results

Qualifications / Requirements

- Engineering or Business degree; MBA preferred.

- 10+ years experience in product management, business development, or multi-region industrial roles.

- Strong leadership, communication, influencing, and strategic-thinking skills.

- Experience working in multicultural and international environments.

 Strong cooperation with multi-product directors. No functional report lines to multi product directors.
