Who will you be working with?

Our best-in-class Electric Rotating Machines Engineering team develops a wide variety of products for rail, off-highway and drill applications. In this role, the Lead Mechanical Engineer will work with a cross-functional team to design and develop electric machines, as well as maintaining and expanding on the existing products.

How will you make a difference?

As a member of the Electric Rotating Machines team, you will be responsible for design, testing, application studies, field support, manufacturing support, and innovation on a variety of machine topologies.  In this role you will train under experienced engineers on application specifics, work within defined parameters to make decisions and apply concepts to issues of moderate complexity while resolving issues through immediate action or short-term planning. You will be responsible for motors and alternator mechanical design and work with cross functional teams to meet assigned objectives. 

     

    What will your typical day look like?

    • Execute the analysis, design, test, or integration required to define and support assigned components, assemblies, or systems that meet business standards and program / product requirements
    • Prepare and present technical data to internal and external customers
    • Participate and work with global teams on projects assigned to address specific organizational initiatives
    • Validate new components and subassemblies, author & release of drawings and specifications
    • Generate engineering documents (DFMEA, Design Review materials, Purchase Specs, meeting notes, technical visuals and presentations, etc.)
    • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
    • Document and communicate results of technical data generated consistent with engineering policies and procedures
    • Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews
    • Take initiative and lead on new product introduction, reliability, productivity

     

    What about the physical demands of the job?

    • Ability to work in engineering lab and workshops as well as office environment
    • Ability to stand/walk for 8 hour period
    • Occasionally bend; stoop; and lift and carry up to 50 lbs. (less than 2 hours/8 hour work day)
    • Frequently stand; walk; talk; hear; use hands and fingers to handle; reach with hands and arms (up to 6-hours/8 hours day)

     

    You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.

    Qualifications

    What do we want to know about you?

    • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience with hardware design (i.e., motors, transformers, etc.)
    • Experience with rotating equipment (alternators, generators, AC motors, DC motors)
    • Good communication skills
    • English Proficiency
