Job Description
Boone REMC is looking for a Payroll Specialist.
The Payroll Specialist manages bi-weekly payroll, managing employee compensation data, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and company regulations. Skilled in handling payroll taxes, deductions, benefits, and responding to employee inquiries while supporting audits, year-end reporting, and integration with HR systems.
Payroll Specialist Functions
- Enters, maintains, and/or processes information in the payroll system; information may include employee’s hourly rates, salaries, or other compensation.
- Assists with federal and state payroll tax filings, deposits, and deductions.
- Prepares and processes bi-weekly payroll, including verifying employee timecards and calculating hours worked.
- Manages payroll deductions, taxes, and benefits with accuracy and compliance.
- Responds to employee inquiries regarding payroll, direct deposits, tax forms, and wage verifications.
- Maintains accurate payroll records, including vacation, sick leave, and non-productive time.
- Ensures compliance with labor laws, tax regulations and company policies.
- Works to enhance operational efficiency and ensures smooth integration of payroll and HR processes.
- Generates reports, processes tax filings, and assists with preparation of year-end employee tax documents.
- Assists auditors by preparing payroll documents and reports.
- Assists with workers’ compensation audit and reporting.
- Prepares regulatory compliance documents related to payroll.
The successful candidate will report to the Human Resources Director. Other items may be assigned according to business needs and directives.

Qualifications
- High school diploma, or equivalent, required; a minimum of an associate’s degree preferred.
- Two years’ experience in payroll preferred.
- Demonstrates a high level of integrity and accountability.
- Must be reliable and extremely trustworthy.
- Ability to maintain confidential and meticulous records.
- Ability to expertly organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to apply arithmetic concepts such as fractions, ratios, and proportions to real scenarios.
- Demonstrates a proficiency in common office applications and equipment, and accounting software systems, including Microsoft applications.
- Ability to follow procedures and processes established by legal counsel and governmental guidelines.
