Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE

To provide reliable testing, calibration, and maintenance of all types of meters and metering equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role, an individual must be able to perform in a satisfactory manner the functions listed below. The company will make reasonable accommodations to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions.

  1. Tests, services, maintains, and calibrates all meters, instruments, transformers, and metering equipment
    • Tests all meters by ANSI and CW REMC standards using computer driven calibration equipment.
    • Thoroughly cleans and repairs meters as needed.
    • Accurately programs all Carroll White REMC meters.
    • Ensures all meters are properly sealed after testing.
    • Accurately documents information on all tested and. repaired meters.
    • Updates and looks up meter related information on the NISC system as needed.
    • Edits meter programming software as instructed.
    • Installs and repairs instrument metering equipment.
    • Installs wiring for CT and PT metering in accordance with directions.
    • Sets and maintains single-phase and three-phase metering above 200 Amps.
    • Accurately wires sockets for single-phase and three-phase company mounted meters.
    • Effectively repairs any damaged meter bases.
    • Performs meter change outs according to company procedures.
    • Assembles, installs, and maintains primary metering equipment.
    • Performs field testing of metering installations.
  2. Meets with members and works with them to help them understand energy usage, assists in identifying member side issues, and may provide recommendations or refer them to qualified personnel.
  3. Assists with power theft cases as needed.
  4. Embraces the REMC policy of Development, Performance and Recognition (DPR).
    • Continually seeks to enhance skills to align with the ever-changing technology, goals and opportunities of the REMC.
    • Expects that management will routinely provide feedback on performance.
  5. Acts as lead person for the Meter Department.
    • Assists the supervisor in training and instructing Meter Technician I.
    • Delegates workflow in the absence of the supervisor.
    • Provides assistance to the Meter Technicians as deemed necessary.
    • Makes decisions within established guidelines, in the absence of supervisor.

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have an equivalent of the following education and/or experience.

  • High School Graduate or equivalent and Vocational/Technical school diploma or equivalent education in electronics or related field.
  •  Minimum of two years as a Meter Technician I or equivalent work experience.

                         Or:

  • Six years’ experience as a Meter Technician I or equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of post high school education.

Office:

  • Some work is performed in an office, which is a controlled environment.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods and operate computer workstation.

Job Specific:

  • Has a working knowledge of the hazards that exist in the form of falls, electric shock, electric flash, falling objects, and traffic.
  • Demonstrated   ability   in   the   effective   application, installation, testing and calibration of all types of watt-hour meters and instrument transformers.
  • Good working knowledge of all types of electrical meters and electrical recording instruments.
  • Knowledge of all local, state, and national codes and regulations regarding instrument metering.
  • Previous work experience in the utility industry is preferred.
