Hendricks Power Cooperative is now accepting applications for the position of Underground Locator for the Mark It Right LLC; working in Central Indiana locations including Bartholomew, Boone, Hancock, Henry, Hendricks, Johnson, Rush and Shelby Counties.

Job Description

The Underground Locator is responsible for utilizing underground locating equipment to mark time sensitive underground locate requests for daily and emergency work, ensuring all locates are properly marked within IUPPS deadlines. Other duties include:

  • Collaborate with other utility locators performing similar functions for the same customer.
  • Interpret and read maps with the marked utility equipment and last known wire locations. 
  • Maintain communication with locating team to show receipt and completion of assigned tickets. 
  • Communicate with customer to ensure instructions of specific locating are understood correctly.
  • Locate underground faults as needed. 

 This position requires work outside in all types of weather.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • 2+ years of underground locating experience preferred
  • 2+ years of positive customer service experience
  • Knowledge of and experience with Indiana Underground Plant Protection Service (IUPPS) rules and regulations preferred
  • Basic electrical and wiring knowledge
  • Basic fiber optic communication knowledge

Personal & Position Qualifications

  • Must have Microsoft office, computer mapping and ticket management software experience.
  • Must be physically able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and walk on various terrain.
  • Must be physically able to sit or ride in vehicle for extended periods to multiple service areas.
  • Must be able to lift, carry and move up to 25 pounds and utilize color perception.
  • Must have the ability to focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Must be capable of meeting deadlines. 
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with management, employees, members, and others.
  • Must be able to work effectively on a daily basis with a variety of individuals with minimal supervision.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work on a rotating afterhours and weekend on-call basis.
