The purpose of this position is to ensure regulatory compliance with environmental laws and regulations in the operation of generation and transmission facilities, and in the planning and coordinating of projects through the application of environmental laws.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities of the role include:
Monitor and ensure compliance with existing environmental laws, regulations, and permits.
Actively participate with staff in the acquisition of required environmental agency approvals, permits, and permit renewals for existing facility construction, operation, and maintenance related projects.
Monitor emerging environmental regulatory and legislative issues and in the development of recommended courses of action as they relate to environmental compliance.
Assist with insurance reengineering visits, insurance policy renewals, insurance claims, and other insurance matters as needed.
Representing WVPA before environmental regulatory agencies dealing with regulatory issues including, but not limited to, permit negotiations, compliance issues, and environmental rulemaking.
Working with the Director of Compliance, represent the Company on various industrial groups addressing environmental issues of common concern. Such organizations could include, but are not limited to, Utility Water Act Group, Indiana Utility Work Group, Indiana Chamber of Commerce, and/or Utility Air Regulatory Group.
Assist the Director of Compliance in providing environmental updates to the Exec. Vice President, Risk, Compliance & Regulatory Affairs, other Company officials, and Membership as appropriate and requested.
Conduct internal environmental audits of affiliated facilities and work with regulatory inspectors during visits to Wabash facilities to provide evidence of compliance to environmental regulations. Maintain the proper environmental documents on site as required by permits and regulations.

- Technical expertise: Able to competently deal effectively with air, water, and/or solid waste issues typically encountered in the electric utility industry. Air expertise is particularly valued as the industry is particularly subject to air regulatory programs.
Education/Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science or similar field required. An advanced degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years progressive experience in environmental affairs, environmental project management, and environmental permitting/compliance required. Expertise in air issues sought. Prior electric utility experience preferred.
- A wastewater license is preferred but not required (Class A or higher)
