Job Description

This position is part of a team that is responsible for engineering the maintenance, operation, construction, expansion and improvement of electric lines and facilities. This position evaluates the operation of the electric distribution system and plans change to ensure electric service is delivered to the member in accordance with the standards of the National Electric Code, RUS and Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.

Essential Functions

  • Develops and implements two-year work plan and evaluates effects of work completed.
  • Responsible for engineering data base.
  • Reviews short and long-term planning requirements to ensure data is collected in a systematic and accurate manner.
  • Monitors system voltage drops and ensures that voltages are within RUS guidelines by switching of loads, lines and/or regulators.
  • Monitors power factor at each metering point and ensures that capacitors are installed, removed or relocated to maintain a minimum of 95% power factor.
  • Assists Manager of Engineering and Operations with developing an annual system power requirement study and consults WVPA to ensure study is completed accurately.
  • Reviews commercial accounts to ensure accurate rate schedules are being used.
  • Provides technical guidance to internal customers and departments as needed.
  • Monitors substation readings.
  • Reviews large power bills and WVPA bills and ensures corrections are made when needed.
  • Verifies line changes or moves prior to putting into engineering files.
  • Prepares and maintains system sectionalizing plan.
  • Develops distribution system switching instructions for all substation and circuit switching to ensure safety of line personnel and equipment.

OTHER FUNCTIONS

  • Certified and regularly trained in first aid, CPR certification.
  • Attend safety meetings, job training and such specialized training as may be assigned.
  • Obtains proper easements and maintain corporate files and records pertaining to easements.
  • Acts as member service representative of the Cooperative.
  • Assists with system outage restoration functions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering is required.
  • Working knowledge of the design, operation, maintenance and inspection of electric distribution system facilities preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Indiana driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of NEC and NESC requirements preferred.
