Job Description

The purpose of this position is to provide engineering support to the WVPA Operations Center. Essential duties & responsibilities are summarized below:

  • Performs reporting analysis of the power system to ensure security and reliability and  to summarize system disturbances
  • Evaluate impacts of planned and/or scheduled maintenance activities on Generation (G), Transmission (T), and Distribution (D) systems and assist Operations Center staff to maintain security, integrity, and reliability of the power system
  • Responsible for maintaining system loading within industry and company standards through analysis
  • Coordinate with Engineering department on system planning projects to meet system operating objectives and projects in construction phase for effective and safe implementation
  • Assists to minimize scope and duration of outages (scheduled or unscheduled) and provide technical support on systems for outage management
  • Utilize and maintain power flow analysis models to analyze operational scenarios and evaluate system disturbances
  • Coordinate G&T outage scheduling among Members and interconnected Utilities to maintain system reliability and ensure optimum scheduling of system resources
  • Ability to be delegate for the Manager, System Operations during system disturbances or outages
  • Perform analysis of G&T system maintenance activities and impacts to security, integrity and reliability
  • Become subject matter expert for various operating tools such as SCADA, PI and CROW
  • Support field activities at substation sites such as commissioning new substations and placing mobile substations in service

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution. Engineering Technology degree or equivalent may be considered with electric utility experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Previous electric utility substation experience highly desirable.
  • Previous experience with EMS/SCADA System, power flow modeling and advanced SCADA applications preferred.
  • Knowledge of NERC reliability standards preferred.
  • NERC Certification at the Transmission Operator or Reliability Coordinator level or ability to attain and maintain NERC Transmission Operator or Reliability Coordinator certification within nine months of requirement.
  • PJM Certification or ability to attain PJM Certification at the Transmission Owner/Operator level within 6 months of requirement and maintain PJM continuing education requirements.
