Job Description

YOUR IMPACT:    

The successful candidate will be a bright, hard-working, and self-motivated individual.  This position is responsible for maintaining Fulton County REMC’s geographic information system (GIS) and for designing and staking of electrical facilities in accordance with Fulton County REMC and RUS construction specifications as well as the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) requirements. The GIS and Staking Technician meets with members, prepares cost estimates, staking sheets, procures necessary construction permits, landowner right-of-way easements and administers necessary service application documents.  The ideal candidate will have a degree in engineering, technology or a related field, experience with geographic information systems, relational databases, and the ability to creatively solve problems.

The GIS and Staking Technician will be responsible for providing the following:

  • Maintain and process information into the cooperative’s Geographic Information System (GIS) database to ensure accurate computerized maps.
  • Evaluate, recommend and implement enhancements and upgrades to GIS system.
  • Train other employees on use of map viewing software.
  • Perform analysis for new services and system operations.
  • Inspection of new and/or existing services
  • Prepare staking sheets for construction, expansion and improvement of electric facilities.
  • Interface with customers regarding new service extensions and process work order estimates.
  • Maintain operational records such as the outage database and property records.
  • Prepare service orders for locates, repairs and other operational items.

Qualifications

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU:

  • Associate’s degree in electrical or electronic engineering, geographic information systems, computer science, or similar discipline, with 3-5 plus years of GIS and Staking experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to design requested services and to prepare staking sheets for work orders, based on a review of the Service Order Request and a field inspection of the site.
  • Must be able to read and interpret lines, schematics, or technical drawings.
  • Must have the ability to estimate the cost of a new service to the consumer.
  • Must be proficient with operating various computer applications and engineering and mapping software.
  • Must be capable of working and communicating effectively with members, employees, and a variety of individuals, as well as work independently to meet deadlines.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather and field conditions.
