Parke County REMC is a nonprofit and member-owned electric cooperative. Incorporated in 1937 by a group of rural citizens, it exists today to distribute quality service and electricity to the members in portions of six counties: Parke, Putnam, Clay, Vigo, Montgomery and Fountain.

Job Description

Scheduled Hours: Monday-Friday 7:30am - 4:30pm
Salary, 26 pays per year
Operations Department

Objectives and Responsibilities:

 The role of Electrical Engineer develops long and short range planning associated with all major system distribution line and substation design, improvements, and inspections. Works to ensure the execution of the long-range plan for Parke County REMC. Establishes processes and programs required ensuring the continuous improvement and integrity of the Cooperative’s electric distribution system. Advises and assists with engineering related issues. Plans and monitors major construction projects to help ensure capital dollars are spent wisely, effectively, and within budget.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Engineering and Planning

·Conducts engineering studies relating to short term plan, long term plans, fuse coordination, voltage studies, distributed generation interconnects, and other studies.

·Utilizes engineering practices to properly conduct transformer sizing, voltage drop analysis, motor start analysis, fault current analysis, power quality issues, load balancing, meter selection, meter application, and other technically related area.

·Takes a proactive role in the research, analysis, and review of all field-collected data on a regular basis, looking for system issues and opportunities for improvement.

 Leadership

·Contributes to staking updates by investigating installations and implementation of new or major modifications, doing so by coordinating the needs of the company and the customers.

·Investigating surveying and staking electric distribution lines in accordance with construction specifications in a timely efficient manner.

·Assists with work order inspections and suggests prospective work order implementation to assist in the maintenance and operations of the distribution system.

·To promote effective member and public relations by developing employee understanding and acceptance of the Coop’s philosophy, actively participating in community organizations and developing support for the Coop’s objectives, plans and programs.

·Directs and supports contractors and other personnel as assigned.

·Provides backup support for the Manager of Operations.

·Set and expect high values in desired self-accomplishments, establish goals in-line with these values, and follows through to the completion so that final results are more effectively, efficiently and economically obtained.

·Additional responsibilities may be assigned to perform other duties from time to time by the Operations Manager.

Technical Support

·Organize, prioritize, recommend and schedule manpower and resources to assist the operation of the Coop.

·Provide for the custodianship, accuracy, upkeep, and security of all department data.

·Assists in planning a financially responsible expansion, modification, and improvement of the electrical distribution system with short and long-term plans.

·Remains current on National Electric Safety Code, National Electric Code, and Electric Transmission and Distribution Specifications.

·Performs field inspections to verify accuracy of Technology Systems, reports discrepancies or hazardous conditions as needed, and makes sure the Technical Systems are updated accordingly.

·Obtain added competency through continued study, research and training in skills that will increase and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of this position and associated departments.

·Administer, research, and maintain software applications necessary to meet the goals of the Operation’s Department, including but not limited to: GIS database, OMS, Engineering Software, CIS database, Staking software, AMI Data and Database.

·Maximizes existing technologies to improve system performance, including SCADA, AMI, outage information, substation and other field devices.

·Receives requests, reviews, and approves pole attachments.


Physical Requirements:

1. Must be able to work in a non-smoking office environment.

2. Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds.

3. Does considerable sitting, walking, standing, bending, stooping, carrying, lifting, pushing, and pulling, in both the field and in an office environment.

  
Conditions of Employment:

1. Must be able to pass random drug and alcohol tests, driver’s license checks, and criminal history background checks.

2. Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a valid Indiana driver’s license.

3. Must be able to prove eligibility to work in the United States.

4. Must be willing and able to work hours in addition to regularly scheduled office hours, as business needs require.

Qualifications

Education and Training Requirements:

1. Bachelor of Science degree or 3+ electrical distribution experience is required.

2. Professional Engineering Certification preferred but not required.

3. Experience in advanced GIS system, system design and electrical utility industry preferred.

4. Strong written and verbal communication and math skills with an attention to detail.

5. Ability and desire to work in a team environment and interact with management staff, co-workers, contractors, and members.

6. Ability to work independently, initiate and manage projects, and complete them without supervision.

7. Strong computer skills and proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite of applications.
