Job Description
WSP Group Africa’s Mine Closure business is seeking to appoint a maximum of three Mine Closure Interns for a one-year period commencing January 2025, to help execute work both locally and elsewhere in the continent. The range of work to be conducted may also extent to the industrial, power and/or renewables sectors, The successful intern candidates will have the opportunity to accompany senior closure practitioners on site visits, contribute to the development of closure and rehabilitation planning reports, computing and finalising closure costs, and assist with liaising with clients,. At the end of the one-year fixed-term internship, WSP intends to appoint the most suitable candidate as a permanent member of the Mine Closure team.
Key Responsibilities:
A key responsibility of the successful candidate would be to provide support to the intermediate and senior team members in computing and verifying closure costs for various mine and industrial sites, along with developing closure and rehabilitation planning and closure costing service offerings, aligning with the relevant legislative requirements and international practices and standards.

Qualifications
- BSc degree (preferably spatial/geographical sciences); or
- BA (Hons) Environmental Management; or
- BTech/BEng degree in civil or environmental engineering; or
- Landscape Architect (BScLArch.
Additional Requirements:
- Own vehicle; and
- Valid driver’s license.
- Passport a plus.
Key Competencies and Generic Skills:
- At least moderate capability in use of MS Excel is a prerequisite.
- Proficient use of Google Earth Pro; MS Word; MS PowerPoint; and other Microsoft Office applications; • Capability in the use of MS Projects would be beneficial but not essential • Numeracy and quantification ability •
- Spatial and three-dimensional thinking and planning ability
- Technical writing capability
- Making and implementing technical decisions with direction from intermediate and senior staff
- Delivers project activities linked to the day-to-day project requirements with a major focus on data collection, processing, and initial interpretation
