Job Description

Providing a consulting engineering service for the design, implementation and close-out of Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) systems. This role comprises of a holistic HVAC consulting spectrum from inception, detail design, documentation and procurement, construction, site monitoring and project closeout. This role will comprise of predominantly HVAC, but Wet Services and Fire Engineering Services experience will be advantageous.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Proficient in HVAC design and commissioning systems in accordance to local and international standards.
  • Proficient in air conditioning heat load and ventilation calculations.
  • Excellent understanding of South African National Standards (SANS), specifically pertaining to Ventilation (Global standard understanding such as British Standards, ASHRAE, etc. will be advantageous).
  • Proficient in various HVAC design software packages (e.g. HAP, Loadest, I.E.S) and manual air psychrometric analysis and design.
  • Air/fluid/heat Flow calculation software and analysis
  • Design, based on client requirements and specifications
  • Proficient in various HVAC modeling software and BIM conversant is essential (AutoCAD, Revit, BIM360, etc.)
  • Proficient in all project stages from inception through to close-out and competent in constructing and compiling tender documentation and management of that process.
  • Formulation of Bills of Quantities (BOQ’s)
  • Specialist equipment specifications understanding and approvals
  • Quality control (QA/QC)
  • Site supervision and construction monitoring
  • Trouble shooting on existing installations
  • Cost control (related to mechanical HVAC only)
  • Project scoping and scope monitoring
  • Contractor and contract management (mechanical HVAC discipline)
  • Fundamental understanding of wet services and fire engineering is required.

Qualifications

  • Must have a B Eng / BSc / B Tech in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering
  • Must have minimum 3 years post-graduation working experience.
  • Must have experience related to HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air-conditioning) Mechanical design on Data Centre projects (non-negotiable).
  • Must have experience related to HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air-conditioning) Mechanical construction monitoring on Data Centre projects.
  • Must have a good understanding and working knowledge of Revit and BIM360
  • Experience in Wet Services and Fire Engineering Services will be advantageous.
  • Individual must currently be working for a consultancy as a mechanical engineer in the data centre space or at a data centre
  • Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng or candidate (non-negotiable)

Key Competencies: 

  • Code B drivers licence (preferably own car)
  • Computer literacy (programming skills will be advantageous)
  • Experience in various Autodesk products (AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, BIM360 suite)
  • Must be self-motivated
  • Team player
  • Excellent communicator and good discussion and problem resolution skills
  • A self-starter who can run with and manage his own projects with the guidance of a senior engineer
  • Skilled in thermodynamic and pipe network design principles
  • Must be responsible and have a high level of self-sufficiency and be able to apply common sense
  • Must have a questioning and inquisitive mind
