Job Description

WSP in Africa is seeking an experienced Rehabilitation and Closure Civil Technician or Technologist for its South African operations that would execute work both locally and potentially internationally. The successful candidate will be required to undertake site visits, liaise with clients, develop post mining landforms, create 3D models and 2D drawings, document and present rehabilitation and closure measures, compute quantities, and assist closure team members as required.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Supporting rehabilitation and closure planning projects, closure costing and interacting with multiple consulting disciplines to assist in delivering innovative and integrated rehabilitation and closure plans and associated costs to clients;
  • Devising and combining multiple concepts and considerations into engineering concepts and plans;
  • Consulting and collaborating with other specialists within WSP to develop technical solutions to specific aspects of closure planning;
  • Assisting with conceptualisation and development of appropriate, feasible solutions to address complex closure related challenges and clearly articulating these using model, drawings, reports, spread sheets, and integrating into a final product

  • Numeracy and the ability to deal with calculating quantities for multiple-level costs worksheets;
  • Highly skilled at developing designs and digital terrain models using Civil 3D and integration with other computer software;
  • Highly skilled at developing 2D drawings to required standards;
  • Diligence and awareness in decision making that has risk and / or financial consequences;
  • Skills to integrate technical input for the completion of multi-disciplinary models and drawings; 
  • Good administrative skills;
  • Good technical writing capability;
  • Ability to draw from internal relationships with other technicians and engineers to inform/develop solutions for applications/problems;
  • Understands and can manage project scope, tasks and budgets to effectively execute allocated tasks within the complete project life cycle; and
  • Ability to develop strong, loyal relationships both internally and externally.

 

Qualifications

  • NDip (Civil) or BTech (Civil) or equivalent accepted by the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA);
  • Active registration with ECSA as a candidate technician/ technologist and close to submitting professional registration application if not already registered;
  • Minimum of five years’ relevant digital terrain modelling and drawing experience, with an appropriate understanding of the rehabilitation and closure context of various types of mines and industrial sites;
  • Advanced use of MS Excel is a prerequisite; and
  • Must be highly skilled at use of AutoCAD and Civil 3D for designs and digital terrain modelling and the development of 2D civil drawings; MS Office suite of programs; Google Earth Pro.
